7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”

fathers Judah (with the wife he really didn’t want, Leah). So you have this situation where Jacob has 2 wives, and his wife Leah feels like Jacob does not love her, so she keeps getting pregnant and feeling like if she has more kids, then Jacob will love her. The back story is that Leah and Rachael’s father actually tricked Jacob into taking both of them to be wives because he was worried he would never get her married off. So all along Leah knows that Jacob wanted Rachael and not her. But from this despised wife comes the lineage of Christ.

The story of this baby is again tragic. Tamar’s husband (Judah’s son) passes away and his brother refuses to impregnate her. Tamar is so frustrated and wants to have kids so badly that she disguises herself as a prostitute and has sex with Judah (her dead husbands father) and this is how Perez comes into the world – through this weird and deceitful interaction. The soap opera of the lineage of Jesus continues!
