Exodus 25:1–9 ESV
1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me. 3 And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats’ hair, 5 tanned rams’ skins, goatskins, acacia wood, 6 oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece. 8 And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. 9 Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.
2 - every heart that moves him, generosity is a choice not a compelling
2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV
7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 - sanctuary, dwelling place - where god wants to be, with his people

Hebrews 10:1 ESV
1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.
dwell, verb - action in the middle of his people, not seperate
Pray
9 - pattern, its patterned after something in heaven that is real, represents a shadow of a reality that is coming

Colossians 2:17 ESV
17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
pray
avengers endgame? it ends well im not going to give any spoilers, towards the end, i felt like God prompted something in me to be aware of, there’s a lie that people will grab onto and try and live in if they are not aware or just dont know about, now heres the thing, i totally get its just a movie and that what im about to say maybe isnt for everyone cause when you see it may not matter. and in and of itself its not bad or a sin,
end of the movie, emotional rollercoaster, main characters says ‘i went out and did some of that living tony always talked about’ and what God said to me was, remember this is what he said to me, great movie by the way, “there is no real living without Jesus.”
own thing, life on your own, your own rules, yolo,
heres the problem and the truth, with that sort of thinking,
1. its always empty in reality
2. it always takes and never gives
3. performance based living
yolo is a lie because you actually live forever and when we come in to these scriptures right here in exodus 25, we are picking up in the story where the people are still spiritual kids and they have to be told what to do and what is right and wrong, and while he’s telling them all of these rules and how to’s and ceremonies and celebrations he is weaving a shadow of a reality that will be realized when jesus comes because (slow down and breathe) there is no real living.. without Jesus
and it brings us to this moment right where God is telling them to build the ark
Exodus 25:10–16 ESV
10 “They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 You shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and outside shall you overlay it, and you shall make on it a molding of gold around it. 12 You shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 13 You shall make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 And you shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark by them. 15 The poles shall remain in the rings of the ark; they shall not be taken from it. 16 And you shall put into the ark the testimony that I shall give you.
second major piece , kind of the lid, mercy seat
Exodus 25:17–22 ESV
17 “You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth. 18 And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end. Of one piece with the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. 20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be. 21 And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you. 22 There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.
this is the first piece
first piece - heart - the very presence of God - with out the ark, meaningless - symbol that God was present -
the significance of the ark in its importance sticks out when you read this portion of exodus but its significance and importance begins to double and triple and even more as you read about the other pieces of furniture in this way, the other pieces of furniture spoke about his ministry and the work he come to do on our behalf but the ark itself spoke of his person.
my living room, and begin making analogies of how different pieces represent what i do in my job, but the piano that represents me not my works, the piano will have different level of importance for me - same
same
as the altar represented the sacrifice and the table of showbread intimacy and communion the ark speaks of his nature
acacia wood, man - only person to ever be both - acacia wood shittim wood - say is incorruptible - attacked or tested - never overcome
gold - divinity, every part is beautiful to look at,
S. Ridout says it this way
The gold covers all. Look at Him, gaze, as far as finite mind and heart can, upon the majesty of His being, and all is Divine! The Divine nature is displayed over the ‘form of a servant’ and wherever the all-seeing eye of God rests, within that pure and holy mind, affections and will, as well as without upon that blameless walk, meekness and obedience, He owns Him as His Equal, His co-eternal Son. It is all gold, though the form of the Servant was there, with perfect human faculties and dependence—everything that belongs to man, sin apart. But spread over all this is the gold of His deity.
Arthur pink says this
Thus, in the wood and the gold together forming the ark we have foreshadowed the great mystery of godliness—God manifest in flesh. Here we see, in symbol the union of the two natures in the God-man, a Scriptural conception of whom is so important and vital—important, as God has shown us by making the ark to be the first object of contemplation as we take up the study of the Tabernacle; vital, because sound views of Christ are inseparable from our very salvation: "This is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent
two pieces that completed the ark, mercy seat - pure gold - 2 cherubim - single piece
cherub video
cherub guard the presence of god , gen 3, ex 25 until prophets its pretty much symbolism, prophets then see spiritual things and see cherubim,
in the ark, 3 things, commandments, pot of manna, rod of aaron
initially just the ten commandments, sacrifices explained, day of atonement, bull is sacrificed, and the blood of the bull sprinkled over the mercy seat which is over the commandments, representing the law,
later
shadow, jesus being the substance, died on the cross taking care of the law for us once for all time, the law is done and over
Hebrews 10:1 ESV
1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.
Speaking of salvation, making perfect,
Hebrews 10:11–14 ESV
11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
God makes a statement right here, the standing before God which is perfect by a perfect sacrifice at the cross - and being sanctified, being made holy. holiness comes from the cross, not your efforts,
Hebrews 10:10 ESV
10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
sanctification is the work of God in you as you trust in what God has done at the cross
So if you believe that Jesus was the son of God and rose again on the third day, you have been declared righteousness, romans, and from this writer, he tells us that you now have a perfect standing before God and that you are holy before God by God, holy means set apart, you have now been separated from the world and are now holy.
The misunderstanding of holiness has led to whats called the holiness movement, which says you are holy by what you do which led to no bowling, no dancing, and other rules of what not to do and holiness became about not doing the wrong things instead of the right thing God has done for us.
the law is done and over and the commands in the ark represent this
Hebrews 9:3–5 ESV
3 Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, 4 having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. 5 Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
later - pot of manna - provision - this was a supernatural thing, manna disintegrated after a day every day, where as this was a golden pot of manna that was still good but not eaten, representing Jesus is our provider
Matthew 6:33 ESV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Psalm 37:25 ESV
25 I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.
Romans 8:32 ESV
32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
lastly
aarons rod, represents supernatural direction, story of the rod, complaining people, korah dies,
Jeremiah 33:3 ESV
3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
1 Corinthians 1:30 ESV
30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
Colossians 2:3 ESV
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Psalm 23:1–6 ESV
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
This is but a glimpse of a little bit of what we see as we look into the ark, Jesus the son of God
