Introduction

On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens in the Cascade Range of Washington exploded with what is probably the most visible indication of the power of nature that the modern world has ever seen. At 8:32 A.M. the explosion ripped 1,300 feet off the mountain, with a force of ten million tons of TNT, or roughly equal to five hundred Hiroshimas. Sixty people were killed, most by a blast of 300-degree heat traveling at two hundred miles an hour. Some were killed as far as sixteen miles away.

The blast also leveled 150-foot Douglas firs, as far as seventeen miles away. A total of 3.2 billion board-feet of lumber were destroyed, enough to build 200,000 three-bedroom homes.996

Many of us like Mount Saint Helen’s in Washington State feel like this sometime. At specific time,( It might not be 8:32 am like in our illustration) explosions ripping things apart in our lives, mountains which represent stability in our lives begin to crumble; things near and far feel the impact of the ten million tons of TNT impacting others who had nothing to do with the situation, destroying lattie dottie and everybody, and now we get to church and were supposed to act like everything is ok. We just preached last Sunday about the Resurrection of Christ! Now what? How do we go forward particularly if Mount Saint Helen’s is tearing your life apart? We need the power of the Holy Spirit , Resurrection Power to take us from one place to another as we travel through this old barren land.
This event If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Who is the Holy Spirit ?
Dictionary of Bible Themes 3010 God, the Holy Spirit

The co-equal and co-eternal Spirit of the Father and the Son, who inspired Scripture and brings new life to the people of God. The Spirit of God is often portrayed in Scripture in terms of “breath”, “life” or “wind”, indicating his role in sustaining and bringing life to God’s creation.

Dictionary of Bible Themes 3030 Holy Spirit, power of

The Holy Spirit equips and empowers believers so that the reign and reality of God is revealed through them in the world.

The Holy Spirit was evident in creation
- (NASB)  The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. This was the power of God sustaining live before form and shape and volume was established on the Earth.
prophesies about the Spirit of the Lord resting on Jesus.

And mthe Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,

the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and might,

the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

(NASB) 1  Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. 2  The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
— "Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations.
Dictionary of Bible Themes 3030 Holy Spirit, power of

The Spirit’s power will enable people to serve God Eze 36:26-27 See also Jer 31:33

(NASB) 26 "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
How can we learn to Soar in the power of the Spirit and stop being crushed and killed by the Mount saint Helen’s in our lives?
How can we stand firm against the stealing, lying, coveting;
Regarding adultery, Jesus said, “Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” ().
In , we are told, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
In a recent (2017) book, Kenneth Boa compares a soaring eagle to Christians learning to soar through the power of the Holy Spirit:
God seems to like eagles. Thirty-three Bible verses mention them! Eagles are true flying birds, meaning they get off the ground by flapping, but they soar by thermals. Eagles begin flight training around four months old. But even before that, at about two months, they stand up in the nest and spread their wings when they feel gusts of wind. They're training to know the thermals! Thermals are the columns of air formed as heat rises from the ground. Because heat rises, these air columns push up and up, displacing the cold air around them. By staying in the warmth of the thermal, the birds continue to soar. Eagles become experts in this.
In this magnificent aerodynamic action, gravity isn't deactivated—it's still at work—but the higher principle overcomes gravity. Eagles drop down when they step off a branch. Then, they start flapping like crazy. Once they're in the air, though, their wings don't have to work very hard, and while soaring, they use a small fraction of the effort required to rise. They're almost at rest and can just enjoy the pleasure of flight.
When we first begin following Christ (or practicing a spiritual discipline) we're like eagles spreading our wings. Once we start flapping, though, we lift up. Maybe after a few tries we're back down on the ground. But through repeated practice, we finally soar. Also, in Greek, the Holy Spirit is called pnuema, which means "current of air." Think about what this means for us! We flap and flap, but eventually we catch the current of air, and we soar. This is how the Holy Spirit works with our training. He's not only our coach; he's the power behind everything we do.
Kenneth Boa, Life in the Presence of God (InterVarsity Press 2017), pages 129-130
We can stop living like pigeons, and live our life like the eagles. Eagles soar. While we are waiting on Jesus to come and get us ( Rapture) we can live in the power of the Resurrected Christ. Note: Reiterate theme verse:
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Point 1 : We can learn to Soar in the power of the resurrection because:
The flesh is dead
We cannot have two living entities living inside of us.
Dictionary of Bible Themes 6166 flesh, sinful nature

The physical aspect of human beings, which distinguishes them from God and is therefore frequently used in the NT as a symbol of human sinful nature in contrast with God’s perfection.

Dictionary of Bible Themes 6166 flesh, sinful nature

The conflict in human experience between the sinful nature and the Spirit of God Gal 5:17

(NASB) 17  For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. Eagles are meant to soar. But when Eagles begin to live like something else, We quench the Spirit Power in our lives. No air to soar, but we begin to drop.
verse #3- We cannot place our confidence in the Law because of the sinfulness of the human nature, The Law cannot bring you and I into a relationship with God, because it rejects grace ( the work of Jesus Christ)
We cannot put no confidence in the Law because our flesh will allow us to think that working to fulfil the law will gain merit with God! What you see today taking place in many cults, and false religions, Islam, Jehovah’s witness, Apostate Judaism, and every other work based false religion is the power of the flesh working through religion with the absence of relationship. It might look good, smell good, taste good, but its not good.
(NASB) 18  For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. If we are going to soar in the Spirit, we need to give a vote of no confidence in the Law but learn from the Law in the context of the grace of God.
Definition of vote of no confidence. : a formal vote by which the members of a legislature or similar deliberative body indicate that they no longer support a leader, government, etc. The chairman was forced to resign after a vote of no confidence by the board of trustees.
We don’t trust in nothing but the Holy Spirit ..........
I. We Have His Presence for Fellowship -He is With You ! And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; How wonderful it is to have His companionship with us throughout this Life.
II. We Have His Protection from Foes - He is Beside You! Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. He is ever at our side to Protect us. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou was with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Point #2- The Spirit of Power in in YOU verse 11 ( The Spirit is Alive)
(NASB) 6  Then he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts.

John Claypool, pastor of the Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville, had a little daughter with leukemia. When she went into remission, everybody thought God had healed her. On an Easter Sunday morning she had a recurrence. In his book Tracks of a Fellow Struggler, Claypool says his daughter asked, “Daddy, did you talk to God about my leukemia?”

He said, “Yes, we’ve been praying for you.”

She asked, “Did you ask him how long the leukemia would last? What did God say?”

What do you say to your daughter when you can’t help her and the heavens are silent? A few hours later, the little girl died. The following Sunday, John Claypool got up to preach. His text was Isaiah 40:31: “Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

“There are three stages of life,” Claypool said. “Sometimes we mount up with wings as an eagle and fly; we’re on top of the world. Sometimes we run, and we don’t grow weary; we just go through the routine. Sometimes the best we can do is to walk and not faint. That’s where I am right now. I need your prayers.”

At the moment that Claypool was at his lowest, he preached probably his most influential sermon. Like Paul, he could say, “For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

The Power of The Holy Spirit And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power
In , the disciples couldn't figure out why they could not cast out a demon from a boy possessed at an early age. As they pointed fingers at each other's inability and impotence, they privately ask Jesus about the reason for their ministry failure. Jesus responds in verse 29: "This kind can come out only by prayer." In other words, they lacked spiritual power. Perhaps they were trusting in themselves and resting on their laurels.[3] William Lane writes, "They had to learn that their previous success in expelling demons provided no guarantee of continued power. Rather the power of God must be asked for on each occasion in radical reliance upon his ability alone."[4]

Similarly, I wonder if the same self-reliance occurs among God's preachers once we've gotten down this preaching thing. Perhaps we pray a little less fervently today than when we first started. Perhaps we pray a little less urgently after we've found our "preaching voice." Perhaps we pray a little less regularly once we learn the ropes of building a "successful" church. And perhaps unbeknownst to us our preaching like a once fully inflated tire has been slowly leaking of Holy Spirit power.
Pray for the Holy Spirit's power.
Introduction: Paul was a very educated man, he could have come in the wisdom of the flesh. But Paul Recognized if anything was to be accomplished it must be in the Power of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is very active in the life of the Believer. Let us take note of His power!
(NASB) 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

We can Lear to Soar in the power of the resurrection because the flesh has no power over us because Jesus condemned sin in the flesh of his humanity; The Flesh is dead, because Jesus died to sin. We can soar in he power of the resurrection because of the resurrection by the Holy Spirit.

Having Been Adopted, Act as Beloved Children. Chrysostom: You are called to imitate God, to become like God. This can happen when you are reconciled with him.… Paul then adds another splendid incentive: You are to act “as beloved children.” He is saying, in effect: “You have another reason for imitating him, not only to receive good but also to be fittingly called his own children.” … Not all children imitate their father, but those who know themselves to be beloved act like “beloved children.
