Prov 3.
INTRO: Well, I thought about a couple of intros for today...
(1) Pharrell Williams singing “Happy”, or
(2) Happy Hogan from the Iron Man movies get us some cheeseburgers, or
(3) Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty with his classic line… “Happy.
Happy.
Happy.”
…but I decided against it.
But speaking about that word, ‘Happy,’ it is found in the first verse of the passage we’re looking at today.
Just like in...
Psa 94.12
HAPPY = Blessed; Favored; Well-Being; Fortunate; Admirable
So, ‘ashre’ is more than a feeling (A state of ‘well-being’), but it can and does involve our feelings (like I was saying last week—the celebration of Easter is sometimes a dancing thing, and sometimes a quiet contentment amid the storms of life).
- Happy, It’s All Better (with Wisdom).
- Happy, It’s All Better (with Wisdom).
This is like a song of celebration of this important truth regarding the instruction to pursue and get godly wisdom!
Verse 13 is the assertion of this section.
*BETTER return on investment.
*BETTER value than the most valuable gems or precious metals.
*BETTER life than the world offers.
(strength, honor, peace, ‘tree of life’)
Verse 18 is an inclusio for this section (“…are happy.”)
I can’t recall ever reading or watching a report of a treasure hunter who finds what he or she is looking for…who wasn’t happy…or actually ecstatic!
- Happy, Creation Established (by Wisdom).
- Happy, Creation Established (by Wisdom).
Literally foundational framework for the significance of wisdom.
(If God created by/through his perfect, righteous wisdom, then those neglecting or even despising wise, biblical instruction—wisdom—are rejecting the truth which brought everything into existence).
*Creation SET.
*Creation SUPERINTENDED.
(Through both the most severe circumstances and the most serene.)
Verese 20a relates to...
Creation (special creation) is very important to the integrity of biblical truth.
Wisdom…history…revelation!
- Happy, Safe & Secure (in Wisdom).
Verse 21 - Exhortation/Instruction/Encouragement to “maintain” and not “lose sight” of wisdom/discretion.
*Safe & SURE FOOTING.
(21-23)
*Safe & SOUND SLEEPING.
(24)
*Secure FROM DANGERS & SNARES.
(25-26)
