Introduction -

In the late 1800’s, we saw a great migration westward in American History. For many, the west held out hope of a better future and hope. The Mexican-American War defined the expanding boundaries of the United States in which Mexico conceded all lands north of the Rio Grande. It was this that sparks a great migration westward.
But even so, as people migrated west, it didn’t come with out great cost. There was a reason it was called the “Wild West.” With the expansive borders, the US had a hard time governing the expanding national boundaries. Nonetheless, the allure westward was strong. The popular statement of “Go west, Young Man” echoed everywhere through the media, literature and even is spilled into modern music today. Toby Keith’s song “I should have been a cowboy” echoes the refrain that still resonates in many hearts today.
Go west young man, haven't you been told California's full of whiskey, women and gold Sleeping out all night beneath the desert stars With a dream in my eye and a prayer in my heart
TRANSITION:
The allure of heading west is as old as time itself. If you will remember with me when we left off in Part 1 of our series in Genesis, that God has expelled Adam and Eve through the east gate of the Garden of Eden. The picture is that the righteous seed of God has been nullified and now the seed of the serpent (All Mankind is banished to live outside the Garden…EAST OF EDEN. The longing to go west is a longing to go home…to find our true home, with true satisfaction, joy and rest. The problem is that even when we realize our desire to home, sin still goes with us. Much like what we have seen in our own American History. There is a reason the the west coast is often referred to the “Left” Coast. That is a not a political statement but rather a statement on the corrupt values that continue to progress when we live outside of God’s commands.
The main idea that we need to set all our continued study of Genesis is this: God continues to propagate righteous seed in spite of the rebellion in sin and unrighteous that now dominates all mankind!
