                                                         The Resurrection

                                               Ho 13:14                 Part 2 of 3                          3/16/08 a.m.

In this series of messages on the Resurrection we will look at 3 areas;

First – the purpose of the Resurrection

Second - the privilege of the Resurrection

Third – the proof of the Resurrection

The privilege of the Resurrection

The Resurrection

Ho 13:14  “I will ransom them from the power of the grave;

                 I will redeem them from death.

                 O Death, 2I will be your plagues! (where is your punishment?)

                 O Grave, 4I will be your destruction! (where is your sting?)

                  Pity is hidden from My eyes.”

1 Co 15:50-57   50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55     “O Death, where is your sting?

     O Hades, where is your victory?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jn 5:28-29  28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth— those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

Resurrection is a rising to life from death for the saved

                        and a rising from death to condemnation for the lost.

The purpose of the resurrection for the Christian is to rescue us from death, hell, and the grave

The privilege of the Resurrection

            Because He lives – we have blessings; glory & rewards

Joy – He has triumphed over death; eternal life

Peace – our sins have been forgiven; fellowship w/God

Purpose – He walks with us every day; live w/God

Love – His presence fills our hearts; in His presence

Hope – He is coming again; He kept His word

Because He lives –

we have blessings; glory & rewards

The Resurrection is an emblem of the new birth.

Col 2:11-15. 11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the 9handwriting of requirements (certificate of debt with its) that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

The Resurrection Gives eternal life

Re 20:6   Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

The Resurrection Delivers from spiritual death

Re 20:11-15    11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second 4death, (the lake of fire).. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

We have Life because of the Spirit of the resurrection

 Ro 8:10   10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Ro 8:11   11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies 4through (Or because of) His Spirit who dwells in you.

The Resurrection makes our faith real – because He is risen

 Jn 14:19    19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.

The Resurrection is the Fulfillment of Scripture & Proves His Sonship

 Luke 24:45-48 44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things.

Due to the fulfillment of Scripture We can have Confidence

Job 19:25-27  25     For I know that my Redeemer lives,

     And He shall stand at last on the earth;

26     And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,

     That in my flesh I shall see God,

27     Whom I shall see for myself,

     And my eyes shall behold, and not another.

     How my heart yearns within me!

Due to the fulfillment of Scripture by the Resurrection we can know we are Accepted of God

Ps 49:15   15     But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave,

                          For He shall  receive me.

The Resurrection helps us concerning sorrow

1 Th 4:13    13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who

                         have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

Is 25:8-9    8     He will swallow up death forever,

     And the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces;

     The rebuke of His people

     He will take away from all the earth;

     For the Lord has spoken.

9     And it will be said in that day:

     “Behold, this is our God;

     We have waited for Him, and He will save us.

     This is the Lord;

     We have waited for Him;

      We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”

The Resurrection destroys or abolishes the Birth pangs of death

Ac 2:23-24    Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of

                       God, …., having 7loosed the 8pains of death,

Due to His resurrection we have liberty

Ro 8:21   because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of

                 corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

His resurrection was to justify the sinner

Rom. 4:25; Jesus our Lord , 25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was

                      raised because of our justification.

Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead we have Hope.

1Pe 1:3 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His   abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Jn 11:25    25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in

                      Me, though he may die, he shall live.

 Jn 14:19    19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see

                        Me. Because I live, you will live also.

The resurrection brings with it Rewards

Lk 14:14   And you will be blessed, ……… ; for you shall be repaid at the

                     resurrection of the just.”

The resurrection brings with it the fullness of joy

Jn 17:13   13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may

                      have My joy fulfilled in themselves.

Ac 2:25-28    25 For David says concerning Him:

     ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face,

     For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.

26     Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad;

     Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.

27     For You will not leave my soul in Hades,

     Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

28     You have made known to me the ways of life;

     You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’

The resurrection brings with it Satisfaction

 Jn 6:35    35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall

                       never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Ps 17:15   As for me,  I will see Your face in righteousness;

                              I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.

The resurrection brings with it a new body

 2 Co 5:1-5  For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

The resurrection body is Incorruptible & immortal

1 Cor. 15:42, 542 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 4 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

The resurrection body is Glorious

1 Cor. 15:4343 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory.

The resurrection body is Spiritual

1 Cor. 15:4444 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body

The resurrection is a Transforming of the body

1 Cor. 15:51 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

In the resurrection we will be like the angels

Matt. 22:30 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but

                         are like angels of God in heaven

Our resurrection body will be like Christ’s

Phil. 3:21 21 will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body

After the resurrection we will live and reign with Christ for a thousand years.

Re 20:4    4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
