I was thinking about this last night while I was putting her to bed. I was on my phone. I was reading through all the Matthew Mark Luke and John I was reading all the counts. when they first saw Jesus when they first heard about Jesus rising out of the Tomb being freed from death and just a lie is a lie, and I remember The first two things that they thought was I'm afraid and I have joy in Jesus comes up to them and says do not fear but he tell them have joy and tell them to run and tell the people about this Joy. I also think of the scripture that I always try to remember from time to time and it helps me it says restore to me the joy of my salvation and have times when I'm struggling when I have a fear, I think of my salvation Story. How did Jesus changed my life and how much joy I have a next day. I was Joe I have that. I want to tell everybody. Would you find that Joy this morning? Find the sing this together.

Okay, that was pitiful.

Will try that again. Good morning.

We don't want to welcome you here this morning. I know for many of you. I'm just having the opportunity to meet you for the first time. I look forward to talking with you a little bit afterwards. But today isn't about us today isn't about Carlisle Baptist church today. It's about serving a risen savior. Today is about celebrating an empty to you know, so many times we say that the cross is the symbol of Christianity and then I'm convinced that in some ways. Yes, that's appropriate but even more than the cross. The empty tomb is the source of Our Hope. See if it the thing that makes us different if we don't serve a deceased deity. We have a risen Redeemer. We have a living Lord. And so because of that there is hope today. There's hope tomorrow There's Hope for eternity. If you have your Bibles with you this morning, I'd invite you to look with me. We're being 1st Corinthians chapter 15.

I realize this is not the typical passage for an Easter Sunday. typically on Easter on on Resurrection Sunday We read one of the Gospel accounts of the empty tomb.

And I'm going to do that for you, but we're going to spend most of our time this morning and 1st Corinthians chapter 15. Matthew's account of the Resurrection says this Matthew chapter 28. It says now after the Sabbath as the first day of the week began to Dawn Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the team and behold there was a great earthquake for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the Stone from the door and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning and his clothing as white as snow when the guards for fear of him and became like dead men, but the angel answered and said to the women do not be afraid for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here for he is risen. As he said come and see the place where the Lord lay and go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead and indeed he is going before you and to Galilee there. You will see him behold. I have told you.

Now that's what we typically do on Easter Sunday as we read the gospel account of the empty tomb. But I'm convinced that sometimes there's a disconnect.

What I mean by that is this week. We read the historical account. But we don't talk about what it really means now.

Some might be tempted to say so there's a historical account of an empty tomb almost 2000 years ago. So what?

Sometimes we missed the Hope in the promise of this morning because we're so busy going through the historical accounts that we don't actually translate what it means now. I had a professor in school that told me he said good news has to be good news to the person that hears it.

Good news for me might not be good used news for you. What scripture is clear that the news that that Jesus was good news for all people.

So how do we take a historical account from 2,000 years ago and related to a contemporary culture? I want to talk today about the difference that'll Living Hope makes

because Jesus is a lot.

What difference does it make to me? to you you don't think I'm thankful for Hope hopes a powerful thing.

6 months ago many of you did much like my family and you wondered out of your house or wherever it was that you were sheltered. Trying to make sense of everything that happened in the course of about 4 hours. He began to look and then try and make sense of how you're going to move forward. I still remember the phone calls in the text messages. I was getting wasn't getting. My phone was dinging, but it wouldn't do anything. I have people trying to send me pictures of the church. All I was getting out I wasn't getting any of the pictures. All I was getting was I'm so sorry Pastor. Sorry for what?

And those days ahead we we began to try to wrap my mind around everything that has happened.

And there's points works very easy to be overcome by circumstances, but hope is a powerful thing. and as Believers, we have hope and you know what we have hope of more than rebuilding a church building. We have hope that's bigger than rebuilding a community or a Air Force Base. We have a living hope that makes a difference for all of eternity. We have a hope for today. Hope for tomorrow and I hope for forever more. I said sometimes we don't translate the resurrection in the empty tomb into what it means for us, but Paul Paul in 1st Corinthians chapter 15 anticipated this question. He was talking about the reality of the impact of a Living Hope. 1st Corinthians chapter 15 verse 12 your rights this

Now if Christ is preached that he has been raised from the dead. How did some among you said there is no resurrection of the Dead. But if there is no resurrection of the Dead in Christ is not risen and if Christ is not risen then our preaching is empty and your faith. It is also empty. Yes, and yes, we are also found false Witnesses of God because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ whom he did not raise up if in fact the dead do not rise. Proof the dead do not rise. Then Christ is not risen if Christ is not risen your faith is futile. You're still in your sense? Can also all who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ. We are of all men the most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep for Since By Man Came Death by man also comes the resurrection of the Dead for as in Adam all die even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order Christ the first fruits after where those who are Christ's that is coming then comes the end when he delivers the kingdom to God the father when he puts an end to all rolling all authority and all power. Remus rain till he has put all a man enemies under his feet The Last Enemy that will be destroyed is death. For he has put all things under his feet, but when he says all things are put under him. It is evident that he who put all things under him is accepted. Turn all things are made subject to him than the sun himself will also be subject to him. He put all things under him that God may be all would you pray with me Father? We thank you for this morning for the privilege of being your house and in God we come together on this Resurrection Sunday. celebrating nada not Christ on a cross

God we come together. full of joy unexpected we come together as a people that are changed because of that in PC. Father I pray that this morning that your spirit would be real in this place. Probably that you would speak to her heart's got encourages challenges convictus changes do whatever it is. You need to do in these moments. Father help us to catch a glimpse of you to never again be the same. Help us to live life in a way that we recognize Our Living Hope. Father take these moments. May you be honored and glorify or we lucky it's in Jesus name we pray.

That was Paul's riding. He said okay, so it's so me all are saying that there is no resurrection of the dead and if there is no Resurrection in his Jesus isn't alive and we got some problems. Instead of going immediately to the promise in the hope. He says if the inverse is true, here's where you're at. And Paul paints a pretty depressing picture. He said if there is no resurrection of the dead and if Jesus isn't raised then the first reality is this life is purposeless.

He said if there is no resurrection and there is no Christ that has defeated death hell and the grave than life has no meaning and no purpose.

You know what? That's a depressing existence. The idea that everything goes on in this life is a meat is simply by happenstance. It's a means of chance and coincidence. You know, what if there's no purpose and all this then why on Earth are we doing it?

And Paul said you know what the resurrection is such a big deal. But if it's not for the resurrection, there's no purpose in life.

He tells them he said if Christ is not risen your faith is futile. If Christ is risen, there's no point in you being this building today.

If Christ is Arisen in there is no resurrection of the Dead really, what's the end of life itself?

Now I'm convinced that that man is seeking purpose. As people we seek significance and meaning in life. We want to know that there's something bigger than us. There's some underlying purpose and everything that goes on.

I said if you don't accept Jesus resurrected, there is no purpose.

There's nothing more than this.

Now we seek purpose and all kind of things we seek purpose and jobs. We see purpose and relationships. We seek purpose and money.

also depart from Jesus the resident there's no hope there's no purpose everything speed out.

Now can't imagine life.

Without knowing that there is purpose and there is a whooping there is reading.

I'm thankful that I came to Christ at a young age. I was brought up in this church. I was exposed to this message early and you know what I was taught over and over and over again. There is a God who has a purpose. Not only does he have a purpose but he is accomplished everything necessary to fulfill it. If I believe that I have simply created by chance and everything in this life. I was just a random accumulation of molecules that had no purpose and no Redeemer. I only part of this there's too much pain and suffering in this life.

I'll see if there's a resurrection of the Dead the lights purposeless. There's no point in any of it. He said you know what Not only would like to be purposeless, but life would also be prison.

He said if Christ is not risen your faith is futile and you're still in your sins.

Please understand me when I say this. I'm going to be as blunt as I can possibly be this morning. The Bible does not call us since sick. We are dead in our trespasses.

We don't make mistakes. We have rebelled against the holy God.

And as we are dead in our trespasses, the Bible is clear that we are slaves to sin.

Unable to do anything to set ourselves free and Paul says to the Corinthians to the Church. Of course, he says listen if Jesus isn't raised. There's nothing you can do to save yourself from your since you're still in slavery.

I told you my testimony I came to Christ at a young age. But you know, what a part in the power of price. I'm helpless against my nature.

I can't just try to be better and change my heart. It requires outside intervention from somebody bigger than me.

The resurrection of Christ means I have a savior in a Living Hope. The grants Freedom. I'm no longer slave.

I choose to be a slave Christ.

Office Wilson if there's no Resurrection Life Is purposeless Life is simply a prison. Where you're helpless against yourself in your nature.

So, you know what not only is life purposeless and a prison but life is perilous. He said You know, the Christ is Arisen than those that have fallen asleep. They're just gone.

If there is no resurrection of Christ, there is no resurrection of anybody.

It's all those that have gone before us they simply cease to be there is no.

Unfortunately in the last 12 and 1/2 years of ministry, I've had to do more than my fair share of funerals.

I can't imagine preaching a funeral with no. Hope of a future. I can't imagine standing in that place saying I know you loved your loved one with everything in them, but there's nothing to be on this.

All the sexual saying if there is no resurrection of Christ resurrection of anybody and it's just over.

But it's not just perlas. If there is no resurrection of Christ life is pitiful.

Set of Christ isn't risen we of all men are the most pitiable. Now you have to understand what's going on. Paul was just been talking about how he's been suffering for the sake of the Gospel. He talks about difficulty and problems. He talks about the life that he's been called to lead. And he said if there's no God if there's no Resurrection if there's no hope after this the life pitiful,

And we should just peed each other.

There is no resurrection and there is no racing if there is no purpose if there's no plan if there's no hope of New Life.

What we do.

But Paul can't leave it there. Because the reality is that we do have a living hope the reality is that the resurrection did happen and because of that life isn't purposeless and life isn't a prison.

Life isn't perilous and life isn't pitiful. There is meaning and purpose and hope and a future.

And all that's wrapped up in the resurrection of Christ.

Now we know the resurrection is true. And I don't want to devolve into trying to prove to you that the resurrections happened. I don't know if there is any fact in human history that has been more studying and more proven than the resurrection of Jesus. We want so desperately to disprove it because of what it demands if it's real. If the resurrection happened, there's somebody bigger than me that I have to serve. If the resurrection is real than that means there is somebody Beyond me and I'm not in charge.

the resurrection absolutely happen But let me give you a couple proof very quickly if I can. Okay, here's how I believe that we know that the resurrection is happen. First off. The resurrection was preached in the very same city that Jesus was crucified in.

If you're going to spend some wild tale go a long ways away from where people know the truth. Go to some obscure Little Village is far off the map as you can possibly get a start teaching it there people in Jerusalem would have known this is crazy this if it wasn't true.

Second off their most passionate defectors, but the people that that argued most passionately against them know that the tomb was empty a fight. They had to come up with a story that Jesus's disciples stole the body.

If there's nobody attends obviously empty.

The person who sent me put Jesus in Joseph of Arimathea, he was a member of the Sanhedrin. He was a very public personality.

If you're going to attempt to pull a fast one on somebody don't put it in a well-known person's tune.

In the early Church in the first century, they had this tradition that if a holy person died of a saint died then they set up a shrine to them at their grave. They're going to try and set up the Jesus because there's no bones. He's gone.

How do we know that the resurrection sure will beyond all those things we can add to it? If you read the story and your reason stores will counts in the gospel there too simple to be made up.

Can can I let you in on a secret that I've learned in Ministry when somebody comes to you asking for help and they have a story that takes 45 minutes to get through their trying to pull a fast one.

If somebody comes to you and says listen, I've got a problem. Here's what's going on. What can you do I jump to it. So hey, let's get after it. Mark's account is so simple. Matthews account are so simple that don't have any of the common things in legendary literature. It's just this happened. This is what it is if you need to know ask anybody. I don't know the resurrections real the first Witnesses were women. If you're orchestrating something in first-century Greco-Roman World send men. Because we're not going to listen to the ladies. What's the name of this song great scheme to pull a fast one that's playing was horrible.

in the first poor the 1st Corinthians chapter 15 Paul gives more evidence. He said you want to know we know that Jesus is Alive that he's a Living Hope in the Tomb is empty. We know because well the women saint

MP3 song and the Apostle Simon over 500 people saw him and then fall even throws in and you know what the greater part of them are still living and so if you want to know go ask him.

Set all the apostles saw him and even I saw Jesus. How do I know he's living in the resurrection through because I've laid my eyes on it.

You know what most of the time people are willing to die for a lie.

And it didn't matter what they threaten them with torturous execution. They would not recant.

Resurrection is real. And because of that all those things that Paul describe life being purposeless in prison and parallelism pitiful. They're not real. We have a Living Hope and I promise we have a savior. It's something we talked about our living. Hope he hear something with you understand very quickly.

This Living Hope. I want to describe it to you first off this this Living Hope is present.

Did you get into that the next little pericope in inverse 20 it says but now Christ is risen. You see our hope is not for tomorrow or hopes for the day. We're not waiting on a savior to come. We're not waiting for Resurrection to happen. The hope is already here.

You know, I can't imagine the Old Testament living for centuries for Generations. Just waiting on a messiah to come waiting for your Redeemer. All of creation is yearning to be set free.

What are the different boat?

We already have our hope.

We have a living. Hope now. this present

Our Living Hope is present in our Living Hope is perpetual His hope don't run out.

I hold onto Lamentations chapter 3 there's a verse in there that says that his mercies are new every morning.

His hope don't in I have hope for today I have hope for tomorrow. I have hope for all of eternity.

Not trying to be pretty honest with y'all eat, you know a lot of my flaws already because I tell you about them.

I'm one of those guys that I anticipate good times if we're going on a vacation if we're traveling somewhere. I look forward to it all anticipated for weeks and months and build up to it. But when I get there instead of just enjoying the moment I start dreading the end of it.

Maybe I'll do the same thing. We took our kids to Universal Studios several years ago we get there. We've been waiting on this vacation. So excited we get there we go to the park the first day we're pumped and I'm like, oh crud. We're one day closer to going home.

You know, what if hope is only now and not tomorrow. We're in trouble. But the reality is our hope is present our hope is Perpetual the same. Hope we have today is going to be brand new tomorrow morning and it's going to be there for all of eternity.

I want to say Perpetual. I don't just mean tomorrow. I don't mean next October. I mean for all of eternity. I mean in millenia future that hope is still going to be fresh and new.

When you start realizing the resurrection in the hope that Paul is talking about. You can't help but smile because he painted these two completely polar opposite pictures a life with no meeting with no purpose with no hope with no. Joy, he saying but Jesus is Alive. It's as bad as I can make it sound as good as you can imagine it. I can't I can't hold a candle to Jesus.

that Perpetual hope you never changes what we live.

The same God has been so good to us for the last 6 months is still going to be good to us tomorrow. That same God that provided and put people in our path. Is characters not changing? You know what the very worst that can happen to me in this life is I die. You know what happens? I just changed venues and I get to meet my hope.

The resurrection makes all the difference. We have hope present we have hope Perpetual we have hope person.

Told you have a tendency of pessimistic sometimes I told people I don't play the lottery because I'll be the first person in history to win and get a bill.

That's my kind of Luck instead of getting 40 million dollars they send me a bill and say Hey you over a thousand

Good luck and good things are things that happen to other people, but the hope is mine. And that hope is yours that hope is personal to every person in this building.

You don't have to ride on somebody else's blessings. You don't have to try and assume something else. It's for you. John 3:16, probably the most commonly understood and enter memorize verse and all the Bible for God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life the problem. We got to love the world, but I think you could still be honest and dealing with that passage instead of doing the world safe for God so loved Emily.

Forgot so loved you.

The crucifixion and the resurrection to sacrifice in the victory. You know what it wasn't just for everybody else. It was an intensely personal thing. He did it for you.

His hope is present his hope is Perpetual his hope is personal.

the last thing Is Hope is provisory? What I mean by that is this. We say that his hope is universally offered. But it's contingent on one thing. Your hope is not found and your finances your hope is not found in the church. You belong to the hope is not found even and you being in this place this morning. Your hope is entirely found in person of Jesus Christ.

Because Jesus is Alive. Everything's different.

I can face whatever problems come tomorrow because my hope still going to be there with me. If things are good tomorrow, I can celebrate because my hope still right there with me. If service of my king demands everything for me tomorrow, he's still going to be there. My Hope isn't going to change your fade away

You know what? the thing that sets us apart from every other world religion this morning is this we are not looking at a shrine.

We are not looking.

At some kind of an idol. We're not talking about how good somebody was we are worshipping. a living God

don't you understand this morning? You have a Living Hope? and that changes maybe this morning to hear you say on a hopeful at my house. I want the privilege in the opportunity of introducing you two are looking up. I would love to introduce you to my Jesus and tell you how he's made all the difference in the world.

My say will I know my Living Hope I've already made that decision if that's the case. I need to do two things. Okay, first off. I need you to remember that tomorrow.

When you go to work on Monday and you get frustrated and you think oh everything stinks remember you have a living. Hope that's right there with you. And the second part of it. Is this our joy needs to reflect our understanding. Dade County just a minute ago to precis. Because we have a Living Hope because of the reality of the Resurrection. There should be joy and celebration Let It Go. And I don't mean just in the moments after this.

This next week. Maybe here this morning say it. I know Jesus. He's My Hope, but I'm struggling through some things. Listen I'd love to privilege to pray for you with you over here. Maybe need to move a church membership. I have no idea what God's calling you to do. But I'd simply ask this if his spirit moves and he speaks. respond Would you play with me Father? We thank you for this one. For the privilege of being in your house.
