The Power of Easter

A People United

I love Easter. I had a different intro into this mornings sermon, but as I sat at my computer and reflected on the cross, the empty grave, and the resurrection. God started speaking to my heart. In our society today we are trying to mimic the unity that Easter brings. Christ said once and for all that all lives matter. No longer would there be Jew or gentile, black or white, but a united church. People who can put aside their differences and come together to worship. A unity that says we all have problems only a Savior, a cross, and an empty tomb could fix.
Some see Easter and the bunny as a pegan holiday celebrating the fertility god. While this is how the idea of the bunny started, it’s not the meaning of the Easter we celebrate. We give gifts and baskets to celebrate the New Life that spring brings in. The constant reminder that God makes all things new. That which was barren and dead has new life and fresh buds.
Good Friday is all about the forgiveness of sins. Our sins hung on the cross. The vail tore in two. No longer are we separated from God. No longer do we need human mediators to come to Christ for us.
Christ came to take a kingdom divided and turn it into a kingdom united. On Good Friday Christ went to Gulgatha - or skull hill and took the cross. Good Friday brings truth to this verse
Hebrews 10:4–18 ESV
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ ” When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
No longer are we seperate from God and no longer do we have to make a continual animal sacrifices for the temporary forgiveness of sins, butChrist has said.
tells us the veil was torn in two. No longer are we separated from our Loving Savior. And on top of it.
Hebrews 10:17 ESV
then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
To come to Christ is the removal of regret, fear, burden, and separation from God. He remembers our sins no more. Put into other words
2 Corinthians
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
You are a new creation. The burden you carried. The regrets you have. Any seperation you might have felt; we are a united church because we are united in Christ. The reasons you may not be able to look in the mirror have been erased. Because of Good Friday and Jesus Christ taking the cross you do not have to carry the burden of failure. You do not have to carry the burden of mistakes. Alcohol doesn’t have to be your temporal release from the things of this world because Jesus came to be your permanent release from the things of this world.
Credit Karma may remember your past errors, but Jesus says I remember them no more. Which brings us to this morning.

Resurrection Sunday

John 2:19 ESV
Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
This is the third day. This is the resurrection of our King. This is the day Satan’s jaw drops. This day reminds me of the counterfeit tail of Hercules—the cartoon my kids watch. Hercules’ girlfriend gets taken into Hades. Death and in a lake of sorrow and misery for eternity. Hercules comes into hell. The cross is finished Jesus steps into hell. Satan tells Jesus you are here forever just as Hades tells Hercules if you go into the lake you will not come out. He jumps into the lake of misery. Hades laughed thinking he won. Hercules grabs his girlfriend and pulls her out. Hades realizes this isn’t his victory. It’s his total undoing. The plans to take over Heaven and Earth have been unraveled. This scene stirs the Spirit of God up in me because I realize I am meg and there is no such thing as hercules. Jesus pulls me out of the pit. Jesus didn’t come to die he came to take back what was his. He didn’t abandon us-he restored us. When we thoughts all hope was lost Jesus said it’s just the beginning of a new Chapter. It is finished---DEATH IS FINISHED>
Romans 10:13 ESV
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Adam and Eve gave Satan the keys to torment us and control us not only in this life, but for eternity. Jesus came to take the keys of bondage.
Luke 4:17–19 ESV
And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 4:
Resurrection sunday…the Year of the Lord’s favor..set free. Redeemed. No longer bound by chains of death and then comes the promise.
Understand Jesus didn’t leave us this morning. He went to prepare a place for us. His desire is that none shall parish, but all have everlasting life.
—I have to go, but I will send a helper. You can’t do this on your own. You were never meant to. You’ve been trying to carry all this luggage and Jesus said leave it all at the baggage claim and come join me in ever lasting life. You can have your cake and eat it too. You can have it all, but it all starts here at the feet of Jesus.
Now is your time of freedom. Now is your time to let go of what you have been carrying. I bore your sins, I carried the cross, I went to hell in your place, and I pulled you out of the lake of fire where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. I restored you. I redeemed you. I call you my child.
All you have to do is accept this forgiveness. All you have to do is receive Him. all you have to do is cry out

Because Jesus will restore you. If that’s you this morning I ask you to stand right now. Get to your feet right now. Don’t waste another moment in a punishment that has already been paid for. Don’t carry around debt you can’t afford. Cast it His feet and call out unto his name.
Finish in salvation prayer.
