Welcome to church this morning! I hope you are ready for a great time of worship together. We have a wonderful set of songs that remind us of the reason we celebrate today. So let’s open our hearts to the Lord as we get on our feet, lift your voices, lift your hands, and let’s sing together - Jesus Christ, my Living Hope!
Song: Living Hope
The resurrection of Jesus gives us hope for tomorrow! This is not hope as the world defines hope. To the world, hope is just a strong wish. i.e. - I hope I get some good chocolate for Easter! It might happen, but it might not. The hope we see in Scripture is something that is certain. It is rooted in the promises of God. So, we can say that hope is looking forward to God fulfilling His promise.
One day, all of the promises we have received from God will be fulfilled. We have this peace and confidence because 1. God cannot lie and 2. Jesus won the victory over sin, death, and hell. His victory provides assurance that we too can have victory. Victory we receive when we trust Jesus as our Savior.
Let’s sing this old hymn together - Victory in Jesus.
Song: Victory in Jesus

Video: Who Is Jesus?
Introduction: One day, as Jesus travelled with His disciples, He asked them, Whom do men say that I the Son of Man am?
The disciples responded, “Some say you are your cousin John the Baptist returned from the dead. Others say that you are Elijah or Jeremiah or another prophet.”
Then Jesus asked them a very personal and pointed question.
Who do you say that I am?
Peter jumped up and gave his answer.
I wonder today, what would you say? How you answer that question truly has eternal ramifications.
How you answer that question truly has eternal ramifications.
This morning, we are going to examine the life of Christ and see what conclusions we are drawn to accept. With the Bible as our guide and using logic and reasoning, I pray that you can see Jesus for Who He truly is - the Christ, the Son of God, the Savior Who came to take away our sins.
John the Baptist was baptizing in the Jordan one day when he saw Jesus walking by. He called out and said:
John 1:36 AV 1873
and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God.
John 1:36 AV 1873
and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God.
This morning, we are going to examine the life of Christ on earth. I pray that you can see Jesus for Who He truly is - the Christ, the Son of God, the Savior Who came to take away our sins.
John 1:36

In the Manger - God Incarnate

The word incarnate means embodied in flesh or given a bodily, especially a human, form. The Gospel of John says:
John 1:14 AV 1873
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1 Timothy 3:16 AV 1873
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

In the Wilderness - God Infallible

Behold, the Lamb

John 1:36 AV 1873
and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God.

In the Manger - God Incarnate

Luke 4:1–13 AV 1873
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into a high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
Hebrews 4:15 AV 1873
For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

In the Grave - God Inconspicuous

1 John 2:2
John 20:19 AV 1873
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Luke 23:43 AV 1873
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

John 20:19 AV 1873
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Ephesians 4:8–10 AV 1873
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Luke 23:43 AV 1873
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Many times, we do not see what God is doing. We think He has perhaps forgotten about us. However, just because we don’t see what He is doing, does not mean He is not at work! Keep trusting! He is doing a great work and His plan will unfold to reveal that what He was doing was the best possible outcome!
Revelation 1:18 AV 1873
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Revelation 1:18 AV 1873
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

After three days - God Invincible!

Matthew 28:1–6 AV 1873
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: and for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Death could not hold Him! The Devil could not defeat Him! He arose, not just His Spirit, but His body! He arose bodily and came out of the tomb in power!! He showed Himself alive. Skeptics have tried to explain away the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus; but the facts still remain - He died and was verified to be dead. Then He was seen alive on several occasions, and not by just one or two (which would have been enough according to Jewish tradition to prove a thing was so) but by over 500 at one time!
1 Corinthians 15:3
1 Corinthians 15:3–8 AV 1873
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

Acts 1:1–3 AV 1873
The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the Apostles whom he had chosen: to whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

Invitation

In the Future - God the King Eternal

Acts 1:6–11 AV 1873
When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Revelation 4:1–11 AV 1873
After this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Jesus is God in the flesh. He is the sinless, spotless Lamb of God sacrificed to pay the price for our sins. By His shed blood and His death on the cross, we can have forgiveness. We can have eternal life. That is God’s gift to us. Have you received that gift?
Revelation 22:1–3 AV 1873
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and of either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Revelation 22:1–5 AV 1873
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and of either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: and they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Revelation 5:1–6 AV 1873
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Revelation 5:1-
You can receive it today. All that is required is that you understand that you are a sinner, that because you are a sinner there is nothing YOU can do to to save yourself, that Jesus Christ paid the price and offers you eternal life, and then you receive that gift. It is as simple as praying and asking Jesus for it. The words you say are not super important. the important thing is the faith and repentance from your heart.
You can simply pray something like this: Dear God, I am a sinner. I know I don’t deserve your love, but I am really grateful you offer it anyway. Thank you for paying for my sins on the cross. I believe you did that to offer me forgiveness and eternal life. Right now, I receive that gift! Right now, I trust Jesus as my Savior. Please forgive me and save me. Thank you! In Jesus Name, Amen!
If you just prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, we have a Bible and a little book that we want you to have as a gift from us to congratulate you in your decision and to help you begin this journey of faith. As you exit the auditorium this morning, you will see people wearing a lanyard like this one. Go up to them and simply say, “I prayed with Phillip this morning.” They will get your Bible and gift book for you. If you have any questions or if you have other things you would like them to pray with you about, please feel free to share it with them.
