Jesus was challenged by the Sadducees and by scribes. They were trying to test Jesus’ knowledge. Was asked which was the most important commandment was. Jesus quoted the SHEMA from Deuteronomy, but added a second which is to Love your neighbor as yourself The word SHEMA means to listen. The Hebrew translation is not only meant to portray “listening” in a physical sense, but as listening and acting. There are two actions involved with this one word.
