It is appropriate, this Easter morning, that we look back and remember what Christ has done for us. But another perspective is important as well, because not only was our salvation paid for in that moment, there is also no doubt Christ was also looking forward to the end of time when His bride, the church, would live with Him for eternity. The time when “It is finished” becomes “It is done.”
(Key word is NEW)

A New Heaven and a New Earth

Revelation 21:1 ESV
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
1st heaven and the 1st earth had passed away.
And the sea was no more
God will make all things new
What we know now will be no more
New creation
Unlike Genesis (something from nothing)
This seems to have some level of connective-ness to the old
However, important to note the old is now GONE

The New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:2 ESV
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Coming out of heaven
From God – still the holy city (God is holy)
Prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
The bride was the church
Now the bride is Jerusalem (makes sense when you read verse 3)

New Relationship

Revelation 21:3 ESV
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:
Behold the dwelling place of God is with man
He will dwell with them
And they will be His people
And God Himself will be with them.
OT access behind the curtain
Now access via the Holy Spirit
Then we will be with God Himself
What we describe as the Hoy Trinity
We will see with our own eyes.

The result of the new relationship

Revelation 21:4 ESV
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Wipe away every tear
Death shall be no more (and everything that goes with it)
Neither shall there be mourning
Nor crying
Nor pain
For the former things have passed away
We know these things as a part of life
They will be a part of the past
They will be no more
We will not remember them (no mourning)
Proclamation of Authority
Write this down
I am the Alpha and Omega

It is done!

Revelation 21:6 ESV
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
It is finished! >>> It is done!
Jesus “It is finished”
Not “I am finished”
This is the Dawn of eternity
This morning you have an opportunity to to decide be a part of two groups (which we will explain)
There will come a time that decision will no longer be available

To the thirsty.

Those who thirst for the true living water
John 7:37–38 ESV
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ”
The thirsty are those who seek after Christ.
What is promised?
Give from the spring of the water of life.
Without payment!!!!
Read Rev. 22:1-4 (further understand this water of life)
life
peace (healing of nations)
Nothing accursed (no sin)
They will see his face
We cannot see the face of God now
Because of His glory and holiness
HIs Night will be no more

To the cowardly.

Revelation 21:8 ESV
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
descriptive list
Those who are cowardly are those who rejected Christ.
