He is Risen!
(He is risen indeed!)
Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus’ resurrection is the greatest fact of human history. Yes, I said fact. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the most testified to events in human history. Hundreds of people testified to seeing the risen Lord. It was women who first discovered the empty tomb. In the first century, if you wanted to create a hoax, you would never use the testimony of a woman. I know this is going to sound shocking to our modern ears; however, according to the rabbinic writings, a woman’s testimony was as valid as a thief’s. So, if you wanted to start an elaborate hoax, you would not use the testimony of women to do it.
Jesus appeared to over 500 people at one time after his resurrection. Most of those people were still alive when Paul wrote to the church in Corinth.
1 Corinthians 15:1–8 CSB
1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. 6 Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time; most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one born at the wrong time, he also appeared to me.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the heart of the gospel message. It is of utmost importance. The disciples died because they testified and held to the truth of the resurrection of Jesus. They were killed because they continued to preach the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The existence of Christianity is a testimony to the fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus is risen from the dead and he is Lord.

This morning, we are going to focus on three words spoken by our risen Savior. “It is done”. Hecho esta.
Revelation 21:6 CSB
6 Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life.
Rev 21:
Naturally, we have to ask the text the question, “What is done?” What was accomplished? Well, let’s go back one verse.
Revelation 21:5 CSB
5 Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.”
Revelation 21:5 CSB
5 Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.”
Jesus is the one seated on the throne. He has been given all authority to judge and he is the one who is making everything new. He tells John to write down what he is saying because his words are faithful and true. There is no possible way to stop what Jesus has declared and he has declared that he is making everything new. These are not empty or hollow sounds. These are the words of Jesus and you can be sure what Jesus has declared will come to pass. He is making everything new.

These are not empty or hollow sounds. These are the words of Jesus and you can be sure what Jesus has declared will come to pass. He is making everything new.
If you forget everything else I say today, I want you to remember this: God’s declarations always come to pass.

God’s declarations always come to pass.

Las declaraciones de Dios siempre suceden.
God’s plan of salvation wasn’t a backup plan. He wasn’t surprised when Adam and Eve disobeyed his command and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He didn’t say, “O man, I can’t believe they did that. Now, what am I going to do?” He knew what they were going to do before he made them. The plan was always for Jesus to take on humanity and come to earth to redeem his people. It was always the plan and Jesus finishes what he starts. No one can stop what Jesus has declared. God’s declarations always come to pass.
Remember when Jesus heard of the death of Lazarus in . Jesus heard that his close friend Lazarus was sick, but instead of rushing to the aid of Lazarus; he waited for several days. He told them that Lazarus’ sickness would not end in death, but that God would be glorified through the circumstance. By the time Jesus arrived at Bethany, Lazarus had died and had been buried for four days. The people wondered why Jesus didn’t heal Lazarus. He had healed so many people, some by just speaking the word. Yet, he allowed Lazarus to die. He asked them where they buried Lazarus and commanded them to remove the stone which sealed the tomb. Martha objected because Lazarus had been in there for a while and decay would have started. It would not be a pretty sight. However, Jesus told them that they would see the glory of God if they believed.
John 11:41–44 CSB
41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you heard me. 42 I know that you always hear me, but because of the crowd standing here I said this, so that they may believe you sent me.” 43 After he said this, he shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out bound hand and foot with linen strips and with his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unwrap him and let him go.”
Jesus declared it and it happened because Jesus’ words are faithful and true. God’s declarations always come to pass. No power of hell or scheme of man can thwart the will of God. We know this happened because the Jewish religious leaders actually wanted to kill Lazarus as well as Jesus because many people were leaving Judaism and following Jesus.
John 11:41–44 CSB

John 12:9–11 CSB
9 Then a large crowd of the Jews learned he was there. They came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, the one he had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests had decided to kill Lazarus also, 11 because he was the reason many of the Jews were deserting them and believing in Jesus.
There were many times when Jesus made declarations and what he said always happens. On the cross, Jesus made another declaration.
John 19:30 CSB
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.

“It is finished!” What is finished? Your way of salvation is finished. Your pathway to peace is complete. Your highway to holiness has been paved. Your throughway to God is done. Jesus paid it all. His shed blood paved the way for you to be brought into the family of God. God’s declarations always come to pass. He came to earth of the mission to seek and save the lost. He made the way. He makes everything new.
John 12:
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
There were many times when Jesus made declarations and what he said always happens. On the cross, Jesus made another declaration.
The new has come. This is the outcome of God’s plan of redemption. He makes everything new. Look at Revelation again.
John 19:30 CSB

Revelation 21:5–6 CSB

The word “done” is the word “gegonan” in the original language. It literally means “They have become reality”.
2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

Γέγοναν - done - “They have become reality”.

Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2017), .
It is the first word in the Greek sentence which denotes its importance. God’s making of all things new is a present reality, not just a future hope. It is happening right now!
The new has come. This is the outcome of God’s plan of redemption. He makes everything new. Look at Revelation again.
Revelation 21:5–6 CSB
5 Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.” 6 Then he said to me, “It is done! Revelation 21:5–7 CSB
5 Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.” 6 Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life. 7 The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son.

How can I say this when our world is so broken? How can I say that Jesus is making everything new when our lives are full of pain, problems, and difficulties? How can we believe that God is making everything new when everything seems crazy and out of control?
John 16:33 CSB
33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
Jesus has conquered the world. Victory has already been declared and God’s declarations always come to pass. I want you to take this home with you and really think about it because it will blow your mind. Jesus is the God of the present.
John 16:33 CSB
33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
Jesus is the God of the present.

Jesus is the God of the present.

He is the great “I AM”. He is not the I was or the I will be. He is the great “I AM”. There is not past or future with the God who created time. He is greater than time. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the beginning of all things and the end of all things. He is already there. It is done. It is finished. The game is over. Jesus is the victor. He rose from the dead. He is Lord and every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Brothers and sisters, are you living in that victory? Sometimes, I see people who claim to be Christians and they are so sad. They are unhappy. They are defeated. It is like they are walking around with a cloud over their head. They aren’t living a life of victory in Jesus. I want you to hear this. Living the victorious Christian life means living by faith.

The victorious Christian life means living by faith.

La vida cristiana victoriosa significa vivir por la fe.
The practical Christian life is living by faith. It is living a life of surrender to God. You are constantly asking, “Jesus what would you want me to do and before you tell me, I am already committed to doing it.” You say, “Jesus, how would you handle this problem and before you tell me, know that I am already committed to obeying you.” You say, “Jesus, this person hurt me. How would you respond and that’s what I am going to do.” I think most of the time we get ourselves into trouble because we aren’t living by faith. We are living by sight. We are living according to our understanding and reason. Remember, the just live by faith and without faith it is impossible to please God. If you are willing to trust God with the eternal state of your soul, then trust him to lead and guide you on a moment by moment, hour by hour, and day by day basis. It is the resurrection of Jesus Christ that gives us; as believers, the ability to live in victory.
Romans 8:35–37 CSB
35 Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered. 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Romans 8:37 CSB
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Romans 8:35 CSB
35 Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
1 Corinthians 15:54–55 CSB
54 When this corruptible body is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal body is clothed with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: Death has been swallowed up in victory. 55 Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting?
1 Corinthians 15:57 CSB
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
1 Corinthians 15:57 CSB
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Romans 8
Our victory comes through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Our victory comes through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This is amazing. Look at again.
Revelation 21:5–6 CSB

Did you catch that last phrase? Jesus gives drinks of the waters of life FREELY! We understand the importance of water here in South Texas. This is the first place I have lived where we pray for rain. Most places I have lived, we pray for the rains to stop. Here we pray for rain which is very much like the land of Israel. I am not saying that South Texas is the Promised Land, but it is pretty close in geographical make-up. We all know that God blessed Texas with his own hand. He brought down angels from the promised land and gave them a place where they could dance. If you want to see heaven, here’s your chance. In any case, in the land of Israel, if you control the springs of water, you control life. Literally, water is life. If you control the water, you can charge whatever you want because people need it. We can’t go very long without water. Here is an amazing truth. Jesus doesn’t charge us for access to the springs of the water of life. Jesus doesn’t charge us for eternal life. He doesn’t make us jump through a thousand hoops to get eternal life. He doesn’t demand sacrifices or offerings to get it. He gives it away for free because he already bought it. Jesus already bought eternal life for us with his own blood. He could set any regulation or any fee he wants, but he doesn’t. He gives eternal life freely to the ones who want it. Isn’t that amazing? Come and drink.

Come to the water of life and drink freely. Are you thirsty? Do you want life? Jesus came to give us life. You can experience the fullness of life that is only found when you accept Jesus as your Savior. He has completed the way. He makes all things new. You can be made new, today. You might say, “But my life is so broken and messed up.” Let me tell you, Jesus excels at taking broken messes and making them masterpieces. You might say, “But you don’t know what I have done.” You’re right, but Jesus already does. He already does and he wants you to come to him. He wants to give you rest for your soul.

Here is another question for us this morning, “How will you respond to Jesus’ offer?” It is done. It is finished. Jesus offers you abundant life. Will you accept by faith the offer of salvation? The amazing grace of God, no matter how bad you have been, no matter how dark your life is, no matter how many people you’ve let down, when you call on Jesus, he hears your prayer and he will forgive every sin and make you brand new.
Romans 10:9–10 CSB
9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.

To reject Him is to reject life. To delay this decision is to continue on the way that leads to destruction. God, in his love decided to give mankind the opportunity to escape the wrath of his judgment. Jesus came and laid down his life for us, but Jesus didn’t stay dead. Today, we celebrate his Resurrection Day. He rose from the dead and offers you the way of life. Will you accept his offer?

This morning, if you are here and you know that you need God’s forgiveness for your sins; realize that you are not here by accident. Will you surrender your life to God and experience his forgiveness? Please bow your heads and close your eyes. Will you pray this prayer with me expressing that you are trusting in God’s ability to forgive you and save you?
“Heavenly Father, forgive me for my sins, make me new. I ask Jesus to be my Savior and to be the Lord of my life, first in every way. My life is not my own, I give it to you. Thank you for new life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, we are so happy that you have become a part of the family of God. Your life has just been transformed. We would like to ask you to do this one thing for us. We want to walk with you in this new journey. Take out your Connection Card and check the box that says you want more information about becoming a follower of Jesus Christ. One of the leaders here at the church will get in contact with you this week and talk to you more about what it means to follow Jesus. Take that Connection Card and put it in the offering plate when it is passed at the end of worship. We want to celebrate the new life you have in Christ.
Also, in just a moment, we are going to stand to sing. Some of the deacons are going to be in the the back of the worship center. If you prayed to receive Christ and want to talk with someone today about what it means to follow Christ, I want you to slip out of your row and come and go talk to them. We want to meet you and pray for you. Also, we have some information that will help you understand more about your new life in Christ.
Brothers and sisters, are you struggling to live in the reality of the victory you have through Jesus? Maybe you are stuck and you can only focus on your problem. You can’t see how you can have victory. If that is you, would you raise your hand. I want to pray for you.
Pray.
Father God, I pray that on this day of celebration that we would see people surrender to you. May they stop trying to do life on their own and receive the rest and salvation that you offer. I thank you for providing salvation to us through the person and work of Jesus Christ. Father, for those who are struggling to live in victory, increase their faith. Show them that you are near and that you will never let them down. Thank you for your patience with us. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
