Where we left off.

Ransomed and set free
1 Peter 1:18–19 ESV
18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
The results of this randsom:
John 19:28–30 ESV
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
It is finished. The ransom has been payed, the sinner has been washed.
And we give God all the glory.
however there is still a small problem that has not been delt with.

The Pig and the Parlour.

A pig has wirthin it the nature to roll in the mud. Thats what pigs do. Now if you take a pig to parlour and make it clean, the moment it leaved it will return to the mud.
Mankind has a sinful nature. We like to sin. And it is all very well this powerful washing by Jesus but if we just return to our sin aftyer we have been washed then its all for nothing.
Proverbs 26:11 ESV
11 Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.
But friday is not the end of the easter story. Sunday morning is.
Friday’s power was that of cleaning.
Sunday’s power is that changing.
On friday Jesus that which would make us clean. on Sunday Jesus that which would make us new.
Romans 6:4 ESV
4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Because of the ressurection, Jesus Christ has divinley enabled us, to by His power, walk in the newness of life.
That word “walk” means live - The power of the ressurection is how we live, behave, act, think, walk in a whole new way - a holy way.
WQe all walk in the old way of life, the sinful way of life.
But because Jesus rose from the dead, we can walk in the newness of life, a holy life.
You see Friday is a day odf amazing grace. But sun day is the day of diligent obedience.
Romans 6:1–4 ESV
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Grace came and we were forgiven on Friday.
But Power came and we, like Jesus, should be raised on sunday.
Can we go on behaving on monday, like we behaved on thursday?
“BY NO MEANS!”
Why not?

Because of Identification.

look at the following verses and spot a repeated word:
Romans 6:3 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Romans 6:6 ESV
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
Romans 6:9 ESV
9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
Its all about the Key word: “Know” - We know something. What is it that we know?
We know that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the Law and we know that Jesus rose in victory from the grave. We also know that he lives in each of us by his Holy Spirit.
This is “New knowledge” that changes the entire situation.
Its like the elephant who is chaned to a plastic chair. it does not know that it can run.
Many christians are the same, they somehow dont know that they are free.
John 8:36 ESV
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Galatians 5:1 ESV
1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
The result? Powerless Christians. Christians who still jump when the flesh barks, who still cower when the devil yells and who still fall in line when the world commands.
Whats the secret? well its not a sectert at all, the bible tells us plainly in this same chanper of romans.
Romans 6:11 ESV
11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Say it again.
I cannot tell you how important this is. Also how simple this is, and yet how elusing this is for many.
The bible is telling you to “convince yourselves” that actually are dead to sin and alive to God.
It is very similar to getting over a mental disorder.
For example lets use an eating disorder like anorexia. The person who suffers from it, thinks and belives themselves to be fat.
Theur flesh tells them they are fat - that the flesh is lying to them.
In actualy reality they are not overweight, they are thin and underweight.
And the healing only begin when they, through counselling and suooport and encouragment, start convincing themelsves that they are not overweight.
They need to consider themelves underweight.
Once they do that, the fleshes lies loose their power over them and they can recover.
The same is ture for the chriatiuan:
The world, the flesh and the Devil are all lying to yiou. tell you that you dont have a choice, that you cannot resist the temptation, that you will never quite smoking, that your will always be an alchoholic, that d nrugs are with you for good, that you need pornograpohy...
But in reality NONE of these lies are true. Its a delusion.
You need to convince, not me, not your wife, not your husband, but youeslef that Jesus has indeed set you free.
Romans 6:14 ESV
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Thats what you need to consider about you and sin: That it no longer has dominion over you.
This is vital to christian victory.

The Practically of Living Holy

Romans 6:12–13 ESV
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
Do not present your members to sin, but present your members to God.
What are your members?
Your members are everything thats makes you you: They are your body parts, your faculties, your gifts, your passions, your oppertinities, your fredoms.
Eyes - porn and filth or kindness and wholeness.
my ears - swearing and grabage or praise and worship.
my hands - violence or healing.
my tongue - curing and abusing or gentle and holy.
my mind - study the Word and copy Jesus or study the World and copy JZ
I remind you:
1 John 2:15 ESV
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
