Must the Rocks Cry Out

Luke 19:29-40

I. The Story

A. His Coming

1. When the conquering King came home after his victory he rode a white horse.

2. Jesus was not coming as a military leader

3. He was not coming as an earthly king

4. He came as the King of Salem (Peace)

B. His Coming was Honored.

1. “Many spread their garments in the way.”

2. This is a small matter when we consider how the Lord stripped Himself for us.

a. He who was rich, for our sakes became poor.

b. Philippians 2:5-7 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

3. Jonathan stripped himself for David.

4. Let us lay the garments of our glory in the dust and crown Him Lord of all.

C. His Name was Praised.

1. They cried, “Hosannah! Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord.”

2. Hosannah means, “Save, I beseech thee.”

3. Such prayer and praise go well together.

4. Well may He be praised, for He has come, not to be ministered unto, “but to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

5. In the Name of the Lord He has come, and He will finish the work the Father hath given Him to do.

6. “Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29).

D. His Kingdom Acknowledged. “Blessed be the kingdom of our father David.” “Blessed be the KING that cometh” (Luke 19:38).

1. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in he Holy Ghost.

a. The foundation was laid at Calvary.

b. The characteristics of it are imparted to us through faith in His Name.

2. As the King of Israel He was put to death, so just now His kingdom is not of this world. “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21).

3. Has this humble, royal Savior had such and entrance into your heart and life as He had into Jerusalem,

4. or are you among those who once cried Hosannah!” but art gone with the course of this world, and are by your heartless indifference crying, though inaudibly, “Away with Him, we will not have this Man rule over us?”

II. Are the Rocks Crying Out or Are You Praising Him with:

A. Your Garment

1. Are you praising him with your whole life substance?

2. We have been bought with a price.

3. All that we have belongs to Jesus.

4. Have you kept back your security, not intending to ever be cold.

B. The Palm Fronds

1. Are you praising him with Your voice Deuteronomy 11:18-21 18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as front lets between your eyes. 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: 21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

2. In front of your family

a. Proverbs 22:6 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

b. What have you taught your child

3. In the church

a. Hebrews 10:19-25 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

b. Philippians 2:3 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4. In the world.

a. Ephesians 4:29 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

b. Matthew 5:16 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

III. In Conclusion

A. Praise is not

1. Just singing

2. Just shouting

3. Just dancing

4. Just acting like you are at a football game

B. Praise is

1. Singing

2. Shouting

3. Dancing

4. Living sold out to Jesus

C. Is there a “FOR SALE” sign on you?

D. Is there a big “SOLD” sticker across it?
