The Basics of Easter
The story of the crusifixion is the miracle of a cursed people became a blessed people - through no work of their own.
It is the story of a people go from Condemnation to Justification.
From death to life.
From darkness to light.
From guitly to forgiven.
It starts with a curse
Let lay down the facts:
God is holy:
God is Good:
God is just:
Gos is perfect:
Thats God.
What about man?
Those are pretty harsh words.
And in tghe face of such horrible accusations we justify ourself with self righteousness and insists that he is a good person.
But here is where the Law comes in and the curse that follows it.
The Law shows us that God’s account of man as being totally unrighteous is in fact true.
We look at the commandments and we discover that we are liars, thieves, blasphemers, adulterers in our hearts, coveters.

And we find ourselves in a horrible situation - a curse.
You see, the curse of the Law is the laws constant condemnation.
It cannot help us, it can only condemn us, and living all our lives under that condemnation is a curse because the condemned do not know peace.
The condemned do not know freedom.
The condemned do not know joy.
Then Jesus Comes
in light of mans hopeless situation, Jesus comes on a daring mission.
A mission of reconciliation.
But there is a problem.
The truth of what i just stated still stands: God is Holy - man is unholy.
This makes reconciliation seem impossible - how can a holy God have fellowship with unholy man?
For there to be reconciliation and peace, sinful man must somehow be brought out of his sinful state and made holy and perfect himself.
And that is what God did.
This amazing action of taking man out of his sinful estate and being placed into God’s holy esate is called:
Redemption
When something is redeemed it means that it is delivered (set Free) by a payment.
Exactly the same as a ransom - in a ransom a person will be delivered (set free) only when a payment has been made.
When the payment is made that person has just been redeemed.
There was an exchange, payment for freedom.
We are slaves to sin.
The Law proves this.
we live under its constant curse of condemnation and fear.
Jesus came to make payment for our freedom.
This payment is what easter is all about.
But our ransom payment was in money, Rands, dollors, pounds.
If it were we coud pay our own ransom.
Instead the Law demanded something far more precious.
Amazing!!
And what is the result?
The result is that we are no longer under the curse of the Laws condemnation.
And through the sacrifice of Jesus a man has found peace with God.
And yet as amazing as all this is, God’s still not finished.
We are still not out of the woods yet.
Why? because there is still the problem of mankind sinful nature to deal with.
you see, the redemption is might because it cleanses us from sin, but there has to be something else or else its a pig in a parlour situation.
A pig, no matter how well cleaned will always return to the mud and get dirty again - its the nature of the pig.
And man, unless his nature is changed, will always return to sin.
What good is all this if we still end up living the same dead lives?
God had a powerful plan to rectify this as well, but that part would have to wait 3 more days.... and so will you.
