John 17:6–19 NKJV
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. 9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

1. The Disciples Understood that the Truth that Jesus taught came from the Father.

John 17:6–8 NKJV
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

Focus Moment

Jesus manifested the Fathers name to the men the Father gave them out of the world.
they came to Jesus from the Father, Jesus gave them “ the word”, they Kept the word
John 17:6–8 NKJV
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

a. A common mistake new believers make is trying to hold on to their favorite parts of the old life while walking in the new.

b. I am not saying that the new life can’t be fun, I am saying we give EVERYTHING to God, He makes ALL THINGS NEW.

2 Corinthians 5:17–21 NKJV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

2. When we come to Jesus, there should be a visible difference between us and the world we came from.

John 17:9–11 NKJV
9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.
Jesus Marks a difference between the disciples and the world.
I think sometimes we get confused because when we were in the world we had struggles. and now I am telling you that now that your in the kingdom there are struggles.
it is true that there are still struggles in the kingdom come from a different source, our struggles in the world came from my sin and separation from God.
now we struggle with our sin and spiritual battle.

3. Father Keeps us from the evil one.

John 17:12–19 NKJV

Focus verse:

John 17:14–15 NKJV
14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.
to be loved by the world is not our goal.
we are not chicken little, we are in the world but as we grow in God the world should be less and less at the for front of our affections.
the things we do are different know because we are in love, we are in love with God.
this hard at first because we think we have to do so much to get our needs met, we don’t understand that every thing we think we have to do for us, as we give those things to God, he gives them back to us with out the funk of the world on them.

4. As we understand and walk in truth the world is drawn to us because they see Jesus in us.

John 17:16–19 NKJV
16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
Growing starts from knowing.
often we are afraid of what we know.
but as we walk in what we know others are drawn to christ in you.
