We all have people in our lives that we are convinced that make our lives more difficult. (boss
We try to solve things but we make things worse.
Boudreaux Joke -
Boudreaux comes into the grocery… lump under his shirt… dynamite… Boudreaux
It seems that everytime God is leading us to do something great, Satan comes in and begins to sow seeds of offense.
People get offended.
James 4:1–2 NIV84
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.
What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t elbow them.
When you blame others, it makes you powerless to be happy because you are depending on someone else to be happy.
You want something but you don’t get it.
We want God to change them, but God wants to change us.

Dealing with Difficult People

1. Overlook the offense from them.

This is the opposite from where out culture is going. Now when we disagree with each other, we hate each other. Look at our college campuses… politics…
God wants us to do something radically different. Overlook it.
Proverbs 10:12 CEV
12 Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do.
Love over looks. Remember we are commanded to love.
Proverbs 12:16 GNB
16 When a fool is annoyed, he quickly lets it be known. Sensible people will ignore an insult.
Proverbs 19:11 NLT
11 Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.
Think different. They may be an old person doing the best they can… they may have just gotten the worst news ever. You don’t know what is going on.
Love imagines what it’s like to be them.

2. Pray for them.

Some of you pray.... 1000 flies of a thousand camels find their armpits… hemorrhoids … bees...
Couples - prayer starts out rough but they always get softer. When you pray for someone, God will guide that prayer to the right way.
Jesus -
Matthew 5:43–44 NLT
43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!
There is a miracle that takes place when you pray for people… a real prayer.
Discover - The prayer may not change them, but it will change you.

3. Forgive them.

not - minimizing… not fogetting it… It just means you are not holding them accountable for the bill.
Jesus doesn’t ask us to forgive them because they deserve it… but because that what he tells us to do and modelled for us.
Luke 23:34 NLT
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
While they are spitting on him, they would hit him and spit on him.
Crosses were not tall, they were short.
Colossians 3:13 NLT
13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
You may not ever feel like someone deserves forgiveness. You may want justice. God says when you forgive others, it frees you keep forgiveness flowing in your life. When you forgiveness
Unforgiveness is like setting yourself on fire and hoping the other person dies from smoke inhalation.
When you stop blaming others, you will have the potential to be free.
Forgiving someone won’t change the past, but it can change my future.

4. Bless them.

To speak well of . This is hard because it’s easier and more fun to talk bad about them. Don’t let this be you.
We don’t speak negatively to anyone about anyone… political group… a church… our
Jesus
Luke 6:27–28 NIV
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
1 Peter 3:9 NCV
9 Do not do wrong to repay a wrong, and do not insult to repay an insult. But repay with a blessing, because you yourselves were called to do this so that you might receive a blessing.
God will bless you when you do. Use your words intentionally. speak life to people.
God spoke the world into existence.
We create our world with our words.
You can create your world with your words. In your home… at your work… you create your world. Speak life to people.
The tongue and has the power of life and death in it…

5. Do good to them.

Find something you can do to serve that person.
Romans 12:17–21 NIV
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Burning Coals - greatest commodity. Burning coals kept the fire going. Heap burning coals on them.
This is impossible in our own power. Look at this...
Matthew 10:8 NIV
8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
You can’t forgive others until you experience forgiveness…
You have to have an encounter with God…
It’s

The forgiven forgive

It’s the forgiven who forgive… the blessed who bless…
Ephesians 4:31–32 NLT
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
