What does this mean?
God tempts no one.
We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice.
Although we are attached by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory.”
I have struggled with my weight most of my life; I have gained and lost several pounds over the years.
The temptation to go for that extra helping is always there.
Likewise we are all tempted in various ways: our sinful flesh sticks it head out of the hole it was buried in, that is opposed to the new creation we are in Christ.
Like my desire for that extra helping, temptation will always be present in our life.
This evening we are going to talk about how God desires to deliver us from temptation; how our will and desires are fighting us to turn away from God, and the reminder that we all need to hear: God tempts no one.
You see,
The Lord acts for our salvation and preservation, not because of the strength of our faith, but because of Christ and His promise of grace.
God Desires to Deliver Us From Temptation.

The Lord tested the disciples in the boat as He was asleep in the stern on a cushion: “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

Even though we pray, “Lead us not into temptation,” it doesn’t mean it is taken away or removed.
It means that we must endure the trial.

The point is, Jesus stills the storm.

God delivers the Christian by remaining true to His promise never to leave.

The point of this evenings gospel reading is, Jesus stills the storm.
It is important to note that temptation can harm no one.
Temptation is just that, temptation.
The problem arises when we allow the temptation to bear fruit in our lives, when we give it the reins and do not resist or pray against it.
The Will and Desires Attempt to Turn us away.
The Bible says, “Put to death what is of your flesh: immorality, impurity, passions, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry” ()

The devil tempted Eve to doubt and disobey God by deceiving her.
King David’s sinful flesh reared it’s ugly head and caused him to commit adultery and murder.
And the devil is constantly attempting to do the same to us.
He tempts us to tray and manipulate God’s Word so that we can do as we please.
Though Jesus was right there with them, note how the disciples accuse Jesus about not caring: “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”

God Tempts No One!
What We Ask Our Father in Heaven to Give Us.
Give us strength to resist and overcome temptation.
We Christian must expect to be attacked daily by the devil with various temptations.
We must expect his blocks and blows.
Though we embody the fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc., the devil will this very hour send an arrow into our heart in an attempt to get us to fall.
But Jesus was tempted by the devil — Satan himself — and won the victory for us.
He is the one who delivers us.
He is the one who stills the storm, of Whom the winds and waves obey.
Jesus acts for the good of His Church and her members, not because we are super-Christians and are strong in the faith, but because of the promise of His grace.
He acts for our salvation and to preserve us, even despite the weakness of our faith.
This is the good news of Christ Jesus our Lord, as He is the strength for the Christian’s life and prayer and for the prayer of the Church.
Because God desires to deliver us from temptation; even though our will and desires are fighting us to turn away from God, yet always remember: God tempts no one.
In fact, He always provides a way of escape.
