Last Week: Knowing who Jesus is changes you, and the new you lives differently because Jesus is better.
Life will be hard as a Christian, but it will be right. You have a reason and a hope to live the right way and accomplish the hard things in Jesus.---- Suffering
This Week: The New You: Servant of the least in the name of the Greatest ---- Servant

Last Week

Jesus told us that once we knew who He was that we would be different.
Who is this guy?
Who am I?
And then we would live differently.
Picking up the cross
Because He is better.
Life as a Christian is hard, but it is worth it.
Following Jesus is difficult and has suffering ahead… But what else is ahead?

This Week

Transfiguration shows the glory that is coming
Suffering VS Joy
Hard decisions now for endless joy later
The Christian lives through suffering (waiting for glory) by humility (His Name is greatest)(How am I supposed to live in a world like this??) ,

(How am I supposed to live in a world like this??) , The demon is more powerful than just disciples. Humbled in God = PowerWhich human is greatest— Your nameWelcome the children— No name for you, only my name!“He who sent me” God just reminded you in the transfiguration that He sent Him.John responded— My name/your nameMy name= us.Don’t you see that when you give up your name and you are under my name then it is “us”?

The demon is more powerful than just disciples.
Humbled in God = Power
Which human is greatest— Your name
Welcome the children— No name for you, only my name!
“He who sent me” God just reminded you in the transfiguration that He sent Him.
John responded— My name/your name
My name= us.
Don’t you see that when you give up your name and you are under my name then it is “us”?
Humility places us at the back of line (serving the least)
This is Specific (make moves)
(Its not about you. Dreams, job you “want” to do, money, friends- You are not the deciding factor in there)
Especially the lowest, most unimportant, least rewarding ones.
Welcomes VS Fall Away (37 vs 42)
Unimportant people—Jesus— God
(Unimportant because your name is greater than Jesus’)
This is serious (hell)
In fact, you’d better remove every obstacle in the way that stops you from doing so because judgment is real
What is the point of unsalty salt?! You HAVE to have saltiness.
You should be pointing others to Jesus and you are tripping yourself
If you do have that salt (serving humbly), you will glorify God in this life, living as what keeps it salty
This is forever (gospel)
Everyone will be salted with fire
(Sacrifices used to be mixed with salt in the OT when burned)
Christians should make Jesus famous through the hard things we endure.

Last week

Jesus showed us how the life of the Christian will involve suffering, but it doesn’t end there.
**Avengers infinity war: kinda hopeless?**

This week

TITLE: Serving the Little Guy, because of the Big Guy
So, hard things to do as a Christian. But are going to add another part onto that: humility.
Humility: Putting others in front of you/ running to the back of the line.
Read
Transfiguration is a glimpse into beautiful amazing reality of heaven. So there is suffering now, but its worth it.
How are we supposed to go through this suffering though? As servants. Under Jesus’ name.
1. Hard decisions now for big rewards later
Right things now— Sometimes hurt
How are we supposed to go through this suffering though?
Read
As servants. Under Jesus’ name.
The disciples on the ground are out there worried about how to be the most important. They end up just trusting in themselves and that doesn’t give them any power.
2. Humble=powerful
**Jesus’ name means something. Mine, yours— they don’t.*
Read
Jesus steps in and heals the boy because the father had faith (even though the disciples were too proud to have the faith they needed).
Read
Then, as everyone goes crazy because Jesus is amazing and they are hype, He drops a bomb: These people will kill me
The point isn’t to be liked. It isn’t to be famous. It isn’t to be popular or fun or crazy or important or great to others.
3. The point is not to be special. It is to be a servant.
Serve others.— but how do you live a life like that?
The disciples sure didn’t know how. The next thing you know...
Read ,
The disciples start arguing about how awesome they are. Which one is the best? Lets fight about it. Jesus points to the “unimportant” person (the one with no return) and says “you are so important, you need to welcome this one. And if you have a reason not to…you’d better get rid of it.”
(You are not under “your name” as a Christian. You are under Jesus’ name.)
No power when your prideful//God’s power when your humbled
You are supposed to serve the Little Guy, because of the Big Guy… for real.
God’s power when your humbled
4A. Humility is serious and the new _____
Jesus wants no excuses for messing this up
You should be pointing people to Jesus and you are tripping over yourself
4B. Humility is serious and the new you
No excuses for not living out who you are now
Total recap: Knowing Jesus changes you. The new you lives a life that is filled with hard things. You have faith that God will take care of you, so you live your life as a Christian by humbly serving others in His name and working hard to remove what keeps you from being humble. ----Jesus calls us to be suffering servants just like He was for us.
Jesus calls us to be suffering servants just like He was for us.
CHALLENGE
NAME: So who are you above? Who do you think is not important enough to talk to, be kind, help out, show compassion to?
OBSTACLE: And why? What stops you from serving them. Get rid of it.
