Cultural Context of Washing Feet, there was nothing more menial than foot washing, remember John the Baptist makes the statement that he wasn’t even worthy to unloose the sandal straps of our Lord
We often want to serve those who are in power, and have prestige, but when it comes to those who are not we look on them as worth(less), and refused so serve with humility or do so with indignancy.
· Serving others is the call and the cost of leadership
· Serving others is not based on you liking them
· Serving others is not based on what people do or do not do (Good or Bad)
Judas’s behavior was somewhat unnatural, it signified a person in close relationship violating the intimacy of the relationship (eating a meal with a person at their table was very much relational in the orient)
But Yet, this doesn’t stop the Lord from washing Judas’s feet.
It doesn’t stop the Lord from completing his mission and Dying on the Cross

This act of Jesus washing the Disciples feet is a prelude to the sacrificial work that will be done on the cross
If we have been washed truly and are disciples of Jesus, then we must follow and do as he has done and demonstrated to us.
We don’t get to discriminate how and who we serve as benefactors of the ultimate gift of Grace,
Philippians 1:1-11
We don’t get to not fulfill our calling and mission to take up our cross because those who are close to us may have hurt us.
