I try to de-church my language as mush as possible.
Today is Palm Sunday, the day Jesus came into Jerusalem and begins the countdown to Jesus sacrifice on the cross.
Jesus is the Lamb
We want to talk about what John called Jesus… the Lamb.
Why is this the best description.
Described as the Lamb 104 times in scripture.
most in first 5 books of the Bible.
25% of this phrase used in Revelation.
Revelation most describes Jesus as the Lamb than any other title.
What does all of this mean?
There are some concepts that are important here.
Description of Moses and Egypt.
Plagues… First =born of every one would die… Israel painted door post with the blood of a perfect lamb.
This was the Passover.
Easter and Pass Over are at the same time.
Passover is celebrated to honor God for setting Jews free… We celebrate Easter to remind us that Jesus set up free.
9 am passover and 9 am Jesus was nailed to the cross.
3 pm the Lamb was put into the oven and Jesus was put into the grave.
Let’s look at three things about the Passover Lamb.
The Lamb was perfect.
The Lamb had to be perfect.
These animals had to be inspected.
Jesus came into Jerusalem and was Inspected.
Jesus cleared the temple because of the corrupt priests in the Temple.
They would sell Lambs to people who had perfect Lambs… It was extortion.
Why was it important for the Lamb to be perfect?
You can’t atone for someone’s sins if your sins need to be atoned for themselves.
The imperfect can only be redeemed by the perfect.
Some people believe that heaven is not a place for perfect people… it is.
Some believe that the KOG is a 51% kingdom… their good outweighs their bad.
I need to have just enough good to outweigh the bad.
What would the number hat gets you in be? 1 Hitler - 100 Jesus.
Say you are an 80, is it good enough?
NO
Jesus is the only one who was perfect...
The Lamb was sacrificed.
Isa said that he was beaten beyond recognition.
Jesus was beaten so bad that you could recognize him.
Passion - describe the whipping and trauma.
The spear was thrust into his side and blood and water came out.
Jesus died from a broken heart because of our sin.
Jesus the Lamb was slaughtered for you and for me.
They had to do this every day.
Twice per day they had sacrifice a Lamb for their sins.
Some Christians are still doing that… trying to appease God.
You better not die with unconfessed sin… Good News - Your Lamb does not need to be sacrificed twice each day.
Jesus sacrifice was so awesome that it takes care of all the sin committed by you forever.
You have been made holy… you are not holy, but he made you holy.
He was sacrificed for you.
The Lamb was shared.
They would cook the Lamb and have a feast.
There could not be any leftovers so they had a rule that since the Lamb had to be consumed, the people had to share the Lamb.
They had to invite others to come help them eat the Lamb.
IOW, our church is too small.
Every church is too small because as long as there is one person who has not had a chance to eat the Lamb, we are too small.
Jesus died for everyone.
He didn’t just die for you and me, but for everyone.
If you have already experienced the benefits of the Lamb, your responsibility is to invite people to come share the Lamb with you.Thats our assignment.
Jesus - I need you to tell others that there is some lamb left over.
We have an amazing opportunity.
People will come.
People will come when invited Easter more so than any other time.
We need to invite people to the feast.
Talk about Easter plans and series.
Our Opportunity
here is what I want you to do.
1. Pray.
Carve out some extra time and pray for people’s lives to be changed in this place next week.
Pray that the barriers will be removed.
I need you to join me in praying for the blinders to come off.
Take authority over the god of this age that is blinding people’s eyes and rebuke him in hte mighty name of Jesus.
2. Invite.
Everyone - invite someone to join you at your service… the one you attend.
When they meet the Lord, you can get excited.
We will have communion in each service.
It’s going to be good.
Annual spiritual survey - A I am already a Christian.
B - I want to become a Christian.
C - I’m thinking about it.
D - I am not interested.
3. Participate.
They sang - if we are going to give Jesus the kind of praise he deserves… what he is worth.
Worthy is the Lamb...
Next week, bring it.
Come get your praise on.
Have a good time in worship.
It will be infectious and others will get excited.
Next week, if there is a visitor looking around, they are your visitor.
