Passage Main Point: Jesus is the Christ: the Messiah, the Savior. His followers are not who they used to be, because He is worth following.

Sermon Main Point: Knowing who Jesus is changes you, and the new you lives differently because you know that Jesus is better.

Sermon Main Point:

Sermon Main Problem: We don’t follow because we either don’t know who Jesus is or we stop fighting.

1-6--- Box 1

The disciples go and tell everyone about God’s Kingdom

Jesus is God, He is here to heal and fix and forgive, judgement will be there for those who reject Him.

7-9--- Box 2

The news and message creates quite a stir

Some people are curious, others confused, some convicted

10-17--- Box 2

As a result 5000 people show up to hear Jesus

Them showing up is great for Jesus- He wants to teach them

But His disciples don’t react this same way- They thought it was about just doing good things.

Jesus wants the crowd to know who He is

Afterward, he asks what the crowd knows and what do they know- Do they know who Jesus is??

Peter gets the answer right

Jesus explains what it means that He is the Christ

He will die, He will suffer, He will be humiliated, but He will come back to life.

So, what does it mean for the person who is following Him?

5000 people showed up to figure out who Jesus was

The Disciples were trying to learn who Jesus was

We meet here every week to try to learn more about who Jesus is

Peter says who Jesus is: He is the Savior

But if he truly believes that then how will that effect his life?

Jesus explains that if you know who He is (The Savior) then that will change who you are.

It will change what is important to you

It will change what you do

It will change why you do what you do

It will give you a new reason to live

Knowing who Jesus is

Christ. Messiah.

God Man Servant King. Perfect innocent sacrifice that took the death penalty for us. Risen King. Came back to life. With God the Father now.

is changes who you are, and the new you lives differently because Jesus is better.

You were a sinner who deserved hell and was living for yourself

Now you are a sinner who deserved hell, but Jesus took that punishment for you and so now you for live Him

and the new you lives differently

Living for Him is so crazy different than living for you.

You don’t fear death, you fear wasting life.

You aren’t trying to get everything in this world, you are thinking about the next one

You aren’t afraid of standing up for what is right anymore

because Jesus is better.

“If anyone WANTS to follow after me...” then they will make these hard choices.

If you want to follow Jesus than you need to know that it won’t be an easy life, but it will be the best one.

You will be able to choose the hard things, choose the right things, live the right way— even want the right things

All of this because you will know who Jesus is and be able to see the options and declare: Jesus is better.

Obeying parents, finishing chores or homework, not laughing at the dirty joke, not clicking on the dirty link, sitting with the weird kid so they don’t have to sit alone, mean texts, mean gossip, lying, stealing, faking it, trying things you know are wrong.
