TWO WEEKS TO GO

Two weeks to go to your death and what would you do.
many of you will be looking at your bucket list and wondering what can i pack in and do before i die
you may be thinking of all those things that you wanted to do before you would die and put them into some sort of order hoping to fulfil as many as you could before that day would come.
some given the info of only two weeks to live would fall into a deep depression thinking of all the things that i wanted to do and not have the time to do them this person might become very melloncollie and would not be able to do anything because of deppresion.
or you might find yourself in the third catagory having been given this info become quite angry and say why should i die now. ive only done this or im two young to die
im sure that given this info that you wouldnt get up the monday morning and set of to work or would do just what you had done every monday for many a year.
but i can see by the look on your faces why ask such a question as only a few people ever get given that info when they can do anything about it.
But i ask this question not because i have some bad news to give to someone today but because the man who we follow wasnt just given two weeks to live but he pritty much new from the begining of his life that he was going to die.
Hebrews 10:5–10 AV
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
heb 10 :5-
here the God man Jesus knew from the beigining that he was to die.so i guess you could say that his life would be filled with all that he could to tell people about his father and reveal God in as many ways to the people as he could and all the more as he saw the time of his death coming ever near.
Jesus who was both God and Man was able to do the thing that God would be able to do but through the body of a human.
we know what God can do because the old testemant is full of his works starting with the creation of our world and finishing with him well what has God finished some might say so but we i think might have something to say.
God is still working in the hearts of man today and the greatest miricle is when God by the Holy spirit( Gods presence in the world today) is able to change the heart of a sinner.
But what was he doing with only two weeks to go before he would die. was he trying franticly to fulfill his bucket list or was he filled with depresion because of the looming day.
I dont think so he would be found in our later list doing just what he had done every week since he had started his ministry. matt 19 gives us a breif but inportant look into Jesus’s live leading up to that d day.
Matthew 19:1–5 AV
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
matt
Matthew 19:6–10 AV
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
Matthew 19:11–15 AV
But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
Matthew 19:16–20 AV
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
matt 19:
Matthew 19:21–25 AV
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
Matthew 19:26–30 AV
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
matt 19:2
lets look at what he had to say during his last days on earth
Matthew 19:1–2 AV
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
matt 19:1-
hear we find 5 important actions
important actions
he finished teaching in galilee
he left galilee
he came to the coast of Judaea beyond Jordan
multitudes gathered
and he healed them.
here we see very much the ministry of jesus He spent very much of his time dealing with the people in the villages and towns that he came to.
His life was all about telling people about his father and bringing his message home by the miracles that would accompany the message.
Lets look at this chapter and see what if anything it can bring for us today who live over 2000 years later.
first we see the Pharisees who were part of the ruling jewish council these were people who by the Mishna ( a book of regulations)had given the the jewish people a load of rules to help them understand the 10 commandments that were given by God to moses, but infact had durden the people down with more regulations than were nessesary. such as how you should bath. and how you should wash the pots.
they were all about the detail and not much about the things of God as the Mishna was more important that the law of God.
One of the fundamental doctrines of the Pharisees was a belief in a future state. They appear to have believed in a resurrection of the dead, very much in the same sense as the early Christians. They also believed in “a divine Providence acting side by side with the free will of man.”—Schaff
But the y were always in objection towards the son of God Jesus in his Ministry for various things
But they were always

But still Jesus gave them time on this ocasion they would try and tempt him on the divorce Bill.
Divorce then as now was a big issue but Jesus stood his ground firmly with his answer to there question.
Matthew 19:3 AV
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Here was a question that was not about the law but was about tradition
law and tradition can be the same but not always
example the law says
Exodus 20:8 AV
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
ex 20:
tradition says sunday is a day of rest so i do restful things.
the law say
Exodus 20:14 AV
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
tradition says i don’t have to marry for eveyone’s doing it.
the law says
Exodus 20:13 AV
Thou shalt not kill.
tradition says do not kill or murder.
in the past the isrealites had come to moses and said we cannot live with this women so a bill of devoice was given
Moses had given this bill of divorce because people are not perfect. But this was not what God meant when he said
Genesis 2:24 AV
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
test of strength
This is how we art to be as married people
christs answer to the Pharesees was great
Matthew 19:4–6 AV
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
matt 19:4-
Todays idea of tradition and only for about 50 years or so, not to long in the time of the our living upon the earth is that we should not marry but live togeather.
Marrage they tell me is a dyeing thing
living togeather is the thing to do.
some people say i dont have to get married in church to be married
some people say as long as God is in the relationship i can get married any where.
some people say as long as God is in the marrage i can marry as many as i like.
but all these are not right according to the word of God and time dose not allow me to go into the all right know.
But HERE we have two forms of marrage by tradition on in the sight of God and the other in the sight of the state.
church and regestrary office.
But have you ever wondered why there is only one place where you can go to get a divioce
God ideal was for us to be always married.
Jesus was happy to deal with the contentous matters of the day and we should also. say whats right and not what accepted by tradition.
If you are living in tradition you can still come back to the way that God wants you to live God still forgives sin.
The pharisees push him again on the bill of divorcement
Matthew 19:7 AV
They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
matt 19:
but Jesus speaks to them about the hardness of there hearts about fornication and about adultery
Matthew 19:8–9 AV
He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
matt 19:8-.
but what is fornication and adultery according to scripture for tradition says that these words or acts don’t exists.
1 Corinthians 6:18 AV
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Matthew 5:28 AV
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
matt
1 cor 6:18
forication is sexual acts ouside of marrige
adultery is sexual act inside of marrige with another person other than your wife or husband.
marrige was the first of the subjects that Jesus was happy to instruct upon
then came men or wonem that do not marry
Then came the children
matt 19:13
Matthew 19:13–14 AV
Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
the disciples had no time for the children but Jesus did.
we have time for the children so that they too might grow up to love and serve God as we do
pr
Proverbs 22:6 AV
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
instruction is good for both male and female.
christ word were
Matthew 19:14 AV
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
is christ saying that only children are in the kingdom of heaven
No
But he is saying that for such is the kingdom of heaven
those who are will to come to me and learn of me those who have a child like faith
Luke 18:17 AV
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Mark 10:15 AV
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
we are to have that simple faith to believe that what God says he will do .so often we try to over see into the words and make another meaning when all God wants you to do is what he says.
so we seen the marriage unit
we have seen the children unit
then come the young persons unit
Matthew 19:16–22 AV
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
here we have a young man who recognises that Jesus is good and what good thing should i do to have eternal life.
matt 19:16-22
This is the question of the ages that people ask of themselves and satan give them an answer or an organisation give then an answer
ages that
reg bayliss way to heaven
the way to heaven is paved with good intension but non will get you eternal life.
The young man recognises that Jesus was Good so he wanted to know how he could get eternal life
i dont know how he new a good man would be able to tell him what good thing he could do to get eternal life.
many people would say that mother tareesa was a good person but would she know
what about Richard Branston or the Rockerfellow family
Being Good dosent mean you would know what Good thing he, she, you or me would have to do to have eternal life.
but Jesus what not just Good his response was just so right
Matthew 19:17 AV
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
matt 19:
Jesus was good for he was God in human Form and to enter into eternal live he had to keep the commandments
but Jesus continued
Matthew 19:18 AV
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
as we said right at the begining the Pharisees although they new the 10 commandments they put more store on the mishna so this was like a red rag to a bull this answer.
ive done this from my youth he said in fustration thinking there would be some really important thing he would have to to to get eternal life.
Jesus new who he was speaking to and he knew what was the things that were the greatest things in his heart and were truly his heart was to lie,
jesus knowing of the tempting that he was trying to catch him in went streight to the seat of his affection that which he loved more than any other thing
matt 19:
Matthew 10:21 AV
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
matt 10:21
Matthew 19:21 AV
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
only Jesus who knows the heart could say say
if thou be perfect.
Jesus knew that he the pharisee was not perfect and hit upon the one thing that he new he wouldn’t be able to do
Matthew 6:21 AV
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mark 6:21 AV

the young man was floored by his secret desire he love money more than he wanted eternal life
that today is still the thing that stops many people following Jesus
Matthew 19:23–24 AV
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

money or eternal life that is the choice.
Jesus spoke to another pharisee that of Nicodemus and his response for eternal life was to be born again.

Matthew 21:12–17 AV
And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? two sayings of christ on palm sunday
the activity of being carried on the back of the colt was at the begining of the chapter but i wanted to to see what he was saying to the church of temple people
my question to us this day is would jesus be saying anything thing like this to us today.
almost 2000 years have past since Jesus spoke these words and what do we have to say to the comments of christ.
lets look at the where he was the temple
what were the people doing in the temple
why was this an anathama to him
are we doing the same.
how can we keep our church or temple from coming under the same condemnation.
the children were crying in the temple not boo hoo
they were crying hossana unto the son of david
they had heard their parents cry this in the streets so they were just coping them
why where the chief priest and scribes sore displeased
Hosanna to the son of David
save us now to the son of David or son of David save us now.
this might be seen by the Romans as a revolt
and the freedom and power that chief priest and scribes had would be taken away.
They liked the status quo as it was they didn’t need some traveling preacher from nazareth messing up there cushi life.
children learn from there parents more than from their peers
we as parents have a great responsibity to bring up our children right
we are teaching them from the day they are born till way past when you think they have stopped learning
in our dedication service we are reminded to
Deuteronomy 6:7 AV
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
dt
what they see is hat they will say
the song we sang in sunday school de carful little hands what we do ,
care full little hands what we do
lips what we say
should last our whole life through as we are being watched
someone once said we (the christian) are the only bible that some peo;e read.
