Learning From Others Mistakes
Has anyone here ever mad a mistake?
I made a costly mistake this week with a kitchen counter.
There’s a difference in learning from other’s mistakes and your own.
It’s a lot easier to forget the lesson when someone else has paid the price.
It’s a lot easier to remember when you’re the one paying for your mistake.
Paul wants to spare Corinth the suffering produced by sin by reminding them of things their forefathers got wrong.
All throughout 1 Corinthians Paul is focusing on Sexual Immorality and Idolatry and today we will look at how those same sins cost the children of God a great price many years ago.
Verses 1-4 speak of the encounter the children of Israel had with God.
Many people believe that they only need one encounter but today Paul reminds us that we need more then just A encounter, we need Encounter(S).
Verse 5 Many people who had experienced the power of God failed to walk in it and as a result, died in the wilderness.
Verse 6 On the bright side…we can learn from their mistakes.
They have become examples of what NOT to do.
Verse 7 Is about Idolatry
They ate and drank
They rose up to play
Verse 8 Is about sexual immorality
In one day 23,000 died.
Verse 9 and 10 Paul reminds us not to complain against God or God’s man with the plague of serpents and the destroying cloud.
Verse 11 These things are all for our example to keep us from making the same mistakes.
Verse 12 Be humble
Verse 13 You’re not alone… others have fought the same battles you are fighting.
But God is faithful
God will not allow you to be tempted with too much.
God will always make a way of escape for you.
