A Life Dependent on God: Dependency

A happy birthday! That is every one’s wish for every birthday celebrant. A famous, familiar, and abused word wishing that everyone will have one, a happy birthday.
As we celebrate the 50th birthday of Sister Tess, as a family, a friend, and sister-in-Christ, we would like to bless her a happy birthday from a biblical perspective that will give benefit as well for everyone of us.

Psalm 71:15–18 NKJV
15 My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits. 16 I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only. 17 O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works. 18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.
Psalms 71:15-17

We know the reality that life is not always a happy life. As we grow old, we experience different difficulties, trials, and sufferings. And there are cries that shook our lives and breaks our hearts apart.

A Life Declaring God’s Work: Declaration

We have witnessed many times in so many ways how people have tried to find a real happiness and satisfaction in life, that in their every birthday they wish a better life. Some people find it in their wealth, career, family or friends, or position in life (pleasure, fame, money, sex, or drugs and alcohol). But in spite of these we still hear about people committing suicide even though they have all of the above.
The word of God says it true:
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV
11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

Psalm 42:2 NKJV
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

A Life Devoted to God: Devotion

Yes, there is emptiness in every man’s heart that only God can fill. But because of the sinfulness of man, people find it in a wrong way thinking to fill the empty space in their hearts.
Yes, there is emptiness
So now the question is, in spite of these things, can we still find a happy birthday, a deep happiness within our hearts that in spite of trials and difficulties, we still find a real joy in the LORD?
There are three principles I want to share for us to find ‘A happy birthday’
A happy birthday is...

A Life Dependent on God: Dependency

Psalms 71:1-
Psalm 71:1–6 NKJV
1 In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame. 2 Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me. 3 Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress. 4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. 5 For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. 6 By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.
5 For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.
10 times from verse 1-6, the pronoun YOU/YOUR has been mentioned. Demonstrating a significant dependency of the psalmist to God.
6 By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.
“In You, I put my trust” v1,
“Deliver me in Your righteousness” v2,
71 In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
“Incline Your ear to me, and save me” v2,
let me never be put to shame!

You hnakakave given the commandment to save me” v3,
incline your ear to me, and save me!
“For You are my rock and my fortress” v3,
Be to me a rock of refuge,
“Deliver me, O my God” v4
to which I may continually come;

for you are my rock and my fortress.
“By You I have been upheld from birth” v6,
Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb” v6,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.
“My praise shall be continually of You” v6

From which the psalmist depend his life? Everything.
He acknowledge that God is his creator so in every situation, it is God to whom he can find refuge and strength.
Saan at kanino ba tayo nakakatagpo ng tunay na kalakasan?

4 times the word “Praise” has been mentioned in . Throughout the psalmist life, from his young age to his old age, He maintain his faithfulness to His creator. And this can only be maintained by his devotion to God.
Psalm 1:2–3 NKJV

We cannot maintain our trust in the LORD without our deep devotion to Him. Without intimacy with Him, we cannot experience real joy or happiness. We need to devote our lives to Him.
