REVIEW: WHAT WOULD JESUS UNDO?

Week one - Unforgiveness: Jesus calls his followers to forgive.

This week - Fear: Jesus calls his followers to be unafraid

What is Fear

Jesus spoke often about how the body is more than the clothes, food and shelter that surround it.

He even made it seem like the people who surround us are to be ignored in matters of fear and worry connected to how we manage and take action.

He declares that we should neither worry, fear or be anxious about what we eat, drink or have because the Lord knows what we need and will provide .

This is challenging to me.

I remember the first time I really dealt with a serious fear of man was in 6th grade.

I was a little overweight, i wasn't athletic and I happened to be in love with see through neon jerseys and things called zubas.

you guys don’t know what zubas are but thats probably for the best.

just to fill you in they were flannel-esk puffy pants that had elastic around the ankels and waist.

typically they came with some very cool zebra stripe patterns or the football team logos of your choice.

Well in all my flourescent see through zuba wearing selfness I attended Reszel middle school in North Tonawanda NY and for a time I thought i was super cool but then something began to change.

I began hearing and seeing people talk about me and my fashion choices.

the results of my listening to their words began this self-conciousness that i hadnt had in the past.

its strange how I can remember a shift in the way my brain thought and my heart felt about other people.

because of my interpretation of the way people looked at me, talked about me, and acted around me i began to shift my own behavior.

eventually my sight and thoughts about their reactions changed from neutral observations to awareness of social power.

if you wore the right clothes and did the right things you got the right looks and words from the socially powerful people and if not....well, I’m sure you are familiar with what would happen if not right, I mean my story is over 20 years old and I think the social power structure is pretty much the same right…

As a matter of fact its been the same for thousands of years....

3 When I am afraid,

I tput my trust in you.

in God I trust; uI shall not be afraid.

Application ideas:

When you begin to feel afraid, ask this question to yourself: What is being threatened?

Answers could vary but will ultimately reveal the things that you value and believe are most important.

My God is with me.

No weapon formed against me will prosper.Nothing can separate me from God’s love.

Not death.

Not demons.

Not the present nor the past.

No power on earth will ever separate me from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus my Lord.I am not what I have or buy.

My identity is in Christ—and Christ alone.By God’s power I can change.I cast my cares on God because He cares for me.My life belongs to God.

Daily I seek Him, and daily He directs my steps.

I know His voice, and He leads me to His perfect will.My confidence is in Christ–and Christ alone.

Because His Spirit lives within me, I can do everythingHe calls me to do.

I love my wife and will lay down my life to serve her.

My children will love God and serve Him with their whole hearts.

I will nurture, equip, train, and empower them to do more for His kingdom than they can imagine.

I love people and believe the best about others.

I am disciplined.

Christ in me is stronger than the wrong desires in me.

I am growing closer to Jesus every day.

Because of Christ, my family is closer, my body is stronger, my faith is deeper, and my leadership is sharper.

I am anointed, empowered, equipped and called to reach people far from God.

I am creative, innovative, driven, focused, and blessed beyond measure—because the Holy Spirit dwells within me.

I develop leaders.

That’s not something I do.

It’s who I am.

My words, thoughts, and imaginations are under the power of Christ.

I take all thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ.

I wake up with purpose, direction, and meaning every day of my life.

Pain is my friend.

I rejoice in suffering because Christ suffered for me.

I bring my best—and then some.

It’s what I bring after I do my best that makes the difference.
