Gal 4:
We are heir’s (v.
1-3
:1-
Paul begins with an attempt to demonstrate the spiritual imeturity of the idea that one needed to live under the law.
He reminded the Believers in galacia of a child who was part of an inharetince although a child owned the entire estate he was as a slave he had no freedom and could make no desisions
look at verse 2
look at verse 2
under Roman law the age of meturity was set by the father and involved a cerimony where the son was officially set as heir.
This is different than the gardians we talked about last week, theese would have been stwards of his inarentence until the formal ceremonry
Paul brings this illistration together.
The believers in galacia were formally inslave to the world.
Some translate this as when they were priviously under the law, but it is most lickly he is here refering to being imeture in there relegious understanding
wheter that be jews that were under the law or gentiles in bondage to unbiblical religions the bottom line was both of them were inslaved until Christ freeded them by His death.
This is what salvation does we are no longer enslaved by our sin, defined by our sin we are free and Christ’s death on the cross is what difines us.
We Cry Abba Father (V.
4-7)
This one word is key BUT but what?
We saw that priviously we were enslaved to the pricipals of the world and the law but now God has sent His son to be born of a woman and born under the law
now in verse five
So God sent his son, to born under the law to so that we can become a child of God.
We touched on this term adoption brefly last week and throughout this series.
What does it mean?
To have all the rights and priviliges of a true son
We who are saved have all the rights and priviliges of a child of God
He goes from declaring us adopted sons to this statement
Because we are sons God has sent his spirit of His son into our hearts, crying Abba Father
Upon salvation we are indwelet with the holy spirit in the OT people were occatinally filled with the spirit but no own was indwelt but we are all indwelt.
He finishes with the reminder we are no longer a slave of the Law but...
We are a son and if we are...
we are an heir through God
Application
Have you accepted Christ as your savior?
have you broken the chains of sin
Since we are free from the bondage do we share this freedom if not why not
Gal
the text says came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
THe entire theeme of galations is this
