You prayed and seem like God was uncooperative or late
Christians make more difficult in regards to getting their favorite parking spot, financial blessing, promotion:
Preachers like me—Miracle stories (Prayed).
Friends are blessed and barely serve Jesus if at all: Job love, Happy marriage, $ blessed—I’m better person.

Context: Herod Antipas married—Fell in love with Bro’s wife: Herodias
Divorced wife, married bro’s wife—JTB called them out!
Herodias—wife hated JTB! Herod Anitpas has JTB arrested because he believed JTB to be a holy man.

17 For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had
him bound and put in prison.
He did this because of Herodias, his brother
Philip’s wife, whom he had married.
18 For John had been saying to
Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19 So
Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him.
But she
was not able to, 20 because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing
him to be a righteous and holy man…

He stood up for Jesus and so Jesus should stand up for him, right?
Jesus instead kept doing His ministry and didn’t send 9 foot tall angels to free JTB, etc.

He started asking questions.
2 When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he
sent his disciples 3 to ask [Jesus], “Are you the one who is to come, or
should we expect someone else?”
Miracles for strangers—not for him.
Turned water into wine, healed the lame, blind and mute.
Maybe I was wrong because you haven’t come for me and free me from prison.

4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The
blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed,
the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the
poor.

So John continues to wait while Jesus continues His ministry.

What we think should have happened espcially if you have never heard the story before:
Happens?
Earthquake—Angel—Blinds Herodias—All fall dead
Music builds—Walks thru smoke—Blue face (Mel Gibson)—Freedom
Gets the keys to the city
Meets & marries a gorgeous animal skin model who also eats honey and locusts—Suburbs—2 kids and a dog named Herodias.
But that is not what happened even though earthquakes and jail cells flew open at other times and places.
This is what did happen:

guests, he did not want to refuse her.

executioner with orders to bring John’s head.
The man went, beheaded
John in the prison, 28 and brought back his head on a platter.

Jesus had power to rescue John—He didn’t.
Where is God?
This isn’t the kind of Christianity we are accustomed to in the US.
Not the praise report we were expecting.
Here’s what did happen:
John’s desire was fulfilled—Prepare the way of the Lord
More importantly—God’s purpose was fulfilled (the blind will see, the deaf with hear and the Gospel will be proclaimed).
Just not according to John’s plan.
