That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. 2 And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach.

Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. 2 And he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them:

Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land.

And in that day having gone forth Jesus from the house sat down by the sea. And were gathering together to him crowds great so that he into the ship having entered sat down and all the crowd on the shore stood.
The parable of the sower and several others in this 13th chapter of Matthew were delivered to great multitudes who stood on the sea shore. A ship, either resting on the beach or gently floating on the waves that broke at the feet of the crowd, was Christ’s pulpit on this occasion. The scene was a grand scene for all that came to hear Jesus teach.
