Jesus is showing and teaching himself to everyone, some are curious but turn away, others are confused but learning, and others still truly know him.
When they know Him the reality of what their life looks like smacks them in the face: pick up the cross.
Do you know who I am?
This is what it means to be the Messiah.
This is what it means to be a disciple of the Messiah.
This is a swell of events leading up to his announcement of who He is
Luke paints a picture of what is is that everyone is buying into: people are interested, ideas and thoughts are piqued, but what is it exactly?
What does it mean to follow Jesus?
Jesus performs miracles, does some teaching and crowds notice.
He then sends 12 disciples- and people notice all of that.
Pretty soon Jesus is sitting there looking at 5000 people, but do they actually know who He is? Do they know what this life is about?

So He asks them (18-20).
One has the right answer.
After teaching for so long, showing for so long, He finally just tells them: suffering, death, resurrection.

Herod wants to see Jesus, but only because He is curious.

Jesus is making moves toward revealing Himself fully to people as the Messiah, but the crowds are still interested.
Which is good and fine, in fact Jesus is glad about it.
The idea of sending these lost people away is stupid to Jesus.
No. Perform a miracle instead of not teaching them truth.
The disciples had just gone out and healed people and performed miracles, but they didn’t understand WHY they were sent to do that.
WHY did they go show God’s power through Jesus to people?
WHY did they proclaim that the Kingdom of God is here?
WHY would Jesus rather do a miracle than send people away?
Because people need to know who Jesus is.

Now, who is Jesus?
If that is what all of this is about, how do they answer that question?
Some people don’t really care to find out (Herod)
They are curious, seems interesting.
But, idc enough to look.
You might have friends here, good friends, that just wont ever take a close look
Some of the crowd kinda get the idea that Jesus and God go together.
They realize that there is something special, but don’t know enough to tell you what.
This is a lot of people in the church.
They know stories or ideas.
They come to things.
They show up and eat the bread.
But, if you asked them point-blank they would give you confused answers.
But, then there are those that know Jesus: the Christ of God
Christ, Christo, Messiah, the Savior.
The Appointed one.
Chosen and sent to suffer and save.
This is who Jesus was revealing, teaching, and declaring Himself as

Now they got it!
This is who He is!
What does that mean though, to be the Christ?
Jesus tells them.
It means the Gospel.
What you do is reveals who you are and who you are is defined by how you know Jesus.
This is who Jesus is, the Christ of God, so that should define who we are.
And Jesus does that next.
“if anyone”- any person who would follow Jesus needs to do it this way.
They need to live this way.
This is how their actions should be defined: choose my way.
If you try to choose your way, you’ll lose everything.
If you ignore what I am saying, you’ll lose it all.
If you are ashamed by me, I will be ashamed of you.
Know me as the One saving you from yourself, that is now who you are, and you are expected to live like it.
Intro
What you do reveals who you are, who you are is defined by how you know Jesus.
So, let me tell you about who I am: My deepest desire is for me to be whats most important, for me to feel the best, for me to be thought well of.
This is me: I am selfish.

That’s where I am as a person.
The things I do show me and you what is in my heart.
The issues that come out, the rough parts show me where I don’t engage Jesus enough or honestly.
I am a Christian, so I know that I am saved and I don’t worry that if I mess up I will go to hell.
But, I know how I should act and talk and think.
I know that I am less than perfect.
I know that I need to know Jesus more.
