Deut 2:2 And the LORD spake unto me, saying,
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
INTRODUCTION
We find ourselves fitting this description:
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
We are those strangers and pilgrims on this earth, and there are two dangers to which we are ever exposed:
a. That of sitting at ease in our present comfortable condition.
b. Rushing impatiently into new spheres and circumstances.
The children of Israel was facing a big challenge, The challenge deals with decisions.
In in the latter part we see that Moses was retelling the story of the spy mission into the promised land.
When the spies returned with reports of giants and walled cities.
The people were afraid to move ahead and they began to complain about their situation.
Then Joshua and Caleb came in with their reports telling about how great the land was, the enemy was weak and God was on their side.
Instead of focusing on God’s direction and promise and move out into faith.
They focus on the negative report. And their decision was decide on their situation instead of on God’s promises.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
This is what I want you to understand tonight that we must move forward but we must be directed by the Lord.
Many times in this life we are faced with a mountain. And decision must be made.
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough:
Now this is what I want you to get this mountain that the Israelites had been compassing was not for them.
Do not bother them, for I have given them all the hill country around Mount Seir as their property, and I will not give you even one square foot of their land.
God said that mountain was not their. Do you understand what I am saying, those mountain that you have been staring at all time, God said you are not to have one square foot of it.
It kinda like this: It is a blessed thing to be saved from the wrath of God to come, but it is a miserable thing never to get beyond that.
Many people have that type of relationship with God, instead of growing and moving forward, we just stay as new Christian.
You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.
For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn't know how to do what is right.
Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
So we need to figure this out here at Southpointe! We need to press on toward our high calling in Christ Jesus.
It is time to move forward, become what God designed you to be.
We are called to serve.
But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,
and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many."
It is time to serve!! We have been waited on enough. Do you understand that mountain of fear, not talent enough, not my calling, don’t have the abilities.
It is not for you, not one square foot of it.
Press forward!!
Look at the command:
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
Go Journey forward, turn to the promised land, Israel was setting their faces toward all that had been freely given to them by God.
See that your neck is not allowed to stiffen looking only at the things of earth, the troubles, hardships, and tribulations.
Instead turn northward. Look up and expect the fulfilment of His exceeding great and precious promises in your daily life.
Instead of the troubles, look for the glory of God.
But in this journey forward, there is a warning.
Deut 2:4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:
Meddle not with them;
Mount Seir had been given to Esau and they will be afraid of you, not mess with them and be careful.
All the inhabitants of that mountain, like fear, not good enough, not enough talent, not enough abilities and that in the mountain, the flesh things are afraid of what going on in your Spirit man, what the Holy Spirit is doing in your being.
But you must be careful, don’t play with fire. Don’t look at it, don’t think about it, don’t meddle with it.
So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Now I want you to look at
For the LORD your God has blessed you in everything you have done. He has watched your every step through this great wilderness. During these forty years, the LORD your God has been with you, and you have lacked nothing."'
When you start journey forward, you will see how God has bless you in everything you have done.
a. His favor has been and is now on your life.
b. His Wisdom has been with you.
He has watched your every step through this great wilderness.
A journey start with a step but it takes many steps to complete the journey.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
God know the way that we need to take. He is mindful of us.
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
He knows the walk you are walking because He has walked the same walk but without sin.
His wisdom will keep us moving forward on this journey.
C. The LORD your God has been with you.
God cannot deny Himself. He would be denying Himself and robbing His Word of its power and glory if His presence failed the humble childlike believing Spirit.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
He has been with you and He will be with you on your journey forward.
d. You have lacked nothing.
Many times the Israelites complained in the wilderness but the Lord God said you will lack nothing.
How many times can we remember the Lord taking care of us.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
We are rich when we have what God wants for us.
Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never abandon you."
