Introduction
Would you trust a stranger with your future?
We entrust our future to people
We entrust our finances to our financial advisors/stock brokers
Stockbrokers manage your financial portfolio
You can make educated guesses, but the market is unpredictable
We entrust our health to our doctors
Any medication that is prescribed, you mostly have no clue what it is, but you are trusting that the doctor knows not only what to give you, but knows the right dosage as well.
Science is always evolving
What doctors did 100 years ago, we might find is ineffective or harmful today as science has evolved
Bloodletting
Practiced for hundreds of years
Believed withdrawing blood from a patient would cure or prevent disease and illness
Done by leeches or by a physician
It is claimed to have been the most common medical practice performed by surgeons from antiquity until the late 19th century, a span of almost 2,000 years.
It is claimed to have been the most common medical practice performed by surgeons for a span of almost 2,000 years.
We entrust our lives to strangers everyday!
Car mechanic with your brakes
Airplane Pilot with the flight
Structural engineer when I enter a building
cieling lights
Doctor prescribed medication
Every day of our lives we are trusting that someone else knew what they were doing!
Now I want you to imagine with me a person that:
All-Powerful
That even says he wont let a sparrow fall to the ground without Him knowing it
No situation or circumstance is out of his control
There is no freak accident, or emergency that caught him by surprise
Not only is this person all powerful, but he is also:
All-Knowing
Everything that is going to happen in your life
Not only do they know it, but nothing happens to you that is out of their control
There is no freak accident, or emergency that caught him by surprise
Are you worried about your future?
Well He knows it
Knows you....Knows your heart
Even better than you do
Your thoughts, insecurities, your biggest fears, greatest joys, aware of familiar with you deepest pain and hurts
No situation or circumstance is out of his control
Not only is He all powerful, but He is also all knowing
Which means He knows your heart
Your thoughts, insecurities, your biggest fears, greatest joys,
Not only all these things, but imagine with me now that this person has an unconditional love for you.
He loves you deeply
Says his thoughts toward you are good…he has thoughts to prosper you
And this person would die for you, so that you could live in true freedom
Not only that, but promises to be ever present with you.
A super mentor in a way.
Wants to guide you and help you in the decisions you make
Gives you something to live for, and a purpose.
I think we all know who I am talking about at this point: I’m talking about God
Let me ask you this question: Why is a God like that, so hard to trust sometimes?
Why is it so hard to give myself wholeheartedly to someone like that?
I can’t tell you many times I’ve chosen stress over strength
Body
Heres the reality: Despite what we know about God, or say we know about God, its still hard to live in trust.
How can we get from a place of “saying” we trust God, to a place of “living” in trust.
You will reach an incredible place of rest in your life, if you can trust.
Know Him -
To know God is to trust God.
Notice I didn’t say, “To know about God is to trust God.”
Woman who quoted
The boy knew , the woman knew the shepherd in
Valley of the shadow of death
Table in presence of her enemies
You can do this through the avenues of
the local church
prayer
reading the Word of God
Acknowledge Him -
This is probably one of the most quoted verses of all time, but probably one of the least lived!
Let me break this down for you a little
“Trust” is a strong reliance or confidence in someone or something
“Trust” is a strong reliance or confidence in someone or something
Some argue that the Heb.
for trust had originally the idea of lying helplessly face downwards
“Lean” to depend on or to rely…to prop oneself up
Acknowledge is quite simply ‘know’, which contains not only the idea of acknowledging, but the much richer content of being ‘aware of’, and having ‘fellowship with’.
Let me read this verse for you from the RLV version (Real Life Version)
“in your times of crisis, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths
This is so important because Trust is built on relationship
Notice it says to acknowledge him in “all” your ways
Mary recognizes Jesus’s voice of relationship
A trust that is not built on relationship is just superficial
In other words, we still only trust in what we can see or make sense of
Let me give you an example
Sometimes when we face heartbreaking circumstances, we’ll quote Scriptures like “all things work together for the good” and then we’ll try and label what that good outcome may be.
House got destroyed, so maybe God wants to give you a better house
Family or friend died, maybe God is going to use this situation to save this family member
Lost a job, maybe God is going to give me a better job
Do you see how easy it is to rely on our own understanding?
Maybe God isn’t looking to be explained away in your circumstances…maybe He’s not waiting for us to figure things out...maybe
He just wants to be invited in.
To your pain, discouragement, depression, heartache, etc...
The trust that is talked about here in goes deeper than what we can make sense of.
It’s a trust that says, God I’m not seeing good come out of this situation, things don’t seem to be getting better, but I know you love me, I’ve seen your goodness in my life, and I’m trusting that you are in control and I just want to invite you in to my situation.
I’m just going to acknowledge you!
This verse isn’t given to us to help us in a state of emergency only.
Our life is meant to be saturated by the Holy Spirit.
I’m acknowledging God in everything I do…there is this constant awareness of God in my life.
