Redigging the Well or DIG IN
Bible Reading: Genesis 26:12-19
Genesis 26:12–19 KJV 1900
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. 13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: 14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him. 15 For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. 16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. 17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. 18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. 19 And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
Text: Genesis 26:15; For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
Genesis 26:15 KJV 1900
15 For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
Introduction: We are here tonight in post revival afterglow. The Spirit of the Lord truly met with us, but we don’t want to allow ourselves to be lulled to sleep. We want to keep moving!
In our BR tonight, God was on the move. He was bringing a revival to his people, but in order for the revival to come he needed their participation.
Point 1:
A. Isaac was a man of promise and prosperity.
B. He resembles what a Christian ought to be.
a. We inherit the blessings of God upon our life.
C. In our Bible reading, the wells of water were stopped up with earth.
D. Wells of water gave and sustained life.
a. Water from these wells were used for man to quench his thirst.
b. Water from these wells were used for daily household activity.
c. Water from these wells were used for the cattle.
d. Wells were used for irrigating crops to bring forth life.
E. The enemies of Isaac and God had stopped them up with earth!
a. The devil wants to block the source of blessing in our lives
b. He wants to block your prayer
c. He wants to block your bible reading
d. He wants to block your soul winning
e. He wants to block your church attendance
f. He wants to block your fellowship
He blocks these things by filling us with distractions. Things that could appear to be opportunity are just stones and obstacles that clog the well of God’s blessing
Point 2:
A. Christ is the Great Well of the Water of Life!
g. He is the One that quenches the inward thirst of man’s hungry soul.
i. It’s not a man or a woman
ii. It’s not a job or career
iii. It’s not a car
h. As water gives, refreshes, and sustain life, so Jesus Christ gives, refreshes, and sustains life.
The woman at the well cried; Give me this water that I may never thirst again, neither come hither to draw.
B. The danger of stopping up the Well of Life with earthly things.
a. God cannot be moved or stopped up.
b. But if we are not careful as believers in Christ, we can be stopped up and cut off the flow of God within our lives by worldly things.
C. The peril of wealth.
D. The peril of family and friends.
E. The peril of chores and daily routines. Martha was a woman who was stopped up with household cares.
Point 3:
V.18; And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
These wells that had brought and sustained life were abandoned, and the enemy went in and filled them up.
But just because they were blocked, didn’t mean that they weren’t still good!
The old way works. Jer. 6:16; Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
We need to seek for that old path. Keep those old wells flowing.
Heb 12:14; Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
We can’t allow emotion to replace the true Holy Spirit worship that purifies the believer. I came across a quote today that said, “If we aren’t careful we can associate God’s presence with emotions and songs as if they are always the gate to God’s presence”
This is a very true statement. True worship and rejoicing in the Lord is born out of righteousness of the Lord working in the believer. Emotional outburst are a cheap substitute for true worship in the Spirit of Holiness.
It takes some work to dig that well of Holiness, but when we reach the source it flows forth life, and joy, and peace, in the Holy Ghost
Conclusion
V.19; And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
In this revival we have been digging, and in some cases re-digging wells. And we’ve reached water. We’ve found that fountain of the Holy Spirit. It’s always been there, we just had to dig for it.
V.20; And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
The devil isn’t just going to lay down but we have to strive for our wells.
But we’re not going to stop there we’re going to keep on digging.
V.21; And they digged another well, and strove for that also:
We need to keep digging!
When it’s time to start eating, and you have a pile of food on your plate, the command to commence eating is “DIG IN”
So Let’s DIG IN
Dig in to prayer
Dig in to Bible Reading
Dig in to Soul Winning
Dig in to the Holy Ghost Baptism.
Dig in to living Holy
Dig in to everything that God has for us!
