Physically alive, spiritually dead. Sin is not a sickness, it is a deadness.
In our flesh we have no desire to seek or know God and spiritually we are dead.

How many of you walk every day? Without Jesus you walk about in sin everyday. You enjoy it, you practice it, you participate in it. Just like walking it is so common you don’t even think about it consciously.

You live in a physical world and the physical world has great influence upon us. Gravity holds us down. The Sun shines. Nighttime comes. Seasons change. People exist. Groups of people create cultures and cultures influence us. If the large portions of people are spiritually dead and walking in sin, what is natural for you to do? Follow others. How many times have you said or heard? He did it why can’t I? Who should you follow?

There also is a spiritual world and the spiritual world has great influence upon us.
The prince of the power of the air and the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience is a reference to Satan. He is a spiritual being. He rules an unseen kingdom of darkness that opposes God’s kingdom. Without Jesus you live in that in that kingdom and follow its leader.
44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Who does God say to follow?

This means you do what you want. Notice you carry out the desires of the body and mind. If you feel like it you do it. If you think about it you do it. You do what you want rather than living like Jesus.
How did Jesus live?
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

You are a son or daughter of Adam and Eve and by nature we are sinners. That is what we do.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Because you commit trespasses and sin, because you walk in those trespasses and sins, because you follow the world, because you follow the prince of the air, because you live in the passions of your flesh, you deserved God’s wrath.
