Draw Near

Hebrides Revival - It was a revival that took place in the islands off the coast of Scotland in 1949. This revival began by 2 thirsty older woman who wanted to see there community changed by God.
Peggy and Christine Smith , one eighty-two and the other eighty-four years of age, committed to pray two nights a week for revival. They began praying at 10:00 P.M. and would usually continue until three or four in the morning. One scripture that they especially clung to, and frequently quoted in their prayers was;
Isaiah 44:3 NKJV
3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;
Also and speaks of the promised outpouring on Pentecost.
During this time of prayer, one of the women saw a vision in which the church of her father was packed with young people and a strange man was standing in the pulpit. She shared this vision with her pastor, insisting that he needed to act on it. She said to him, “You’ve tried missions. You’ve tried special evangelists. Mr. McKee, have you tried God?” 5 She requested that he, along with others, should gather to pray for revival. If not in the same home as theirs, at least they could meet at the same time.

As a result a great awaking took place. Whole towns and villages were struck with the presence of God at all hours day and night. Most didn’t know what was happening to them other than they felt the presence of God and the conviction of the Holy Spirit crying out for mercy.

James 4:8 NKJV
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
No man comes to the Father unless the Father draws him speaks of the unbeliever. speaks of the believer. This verse says that we initiate this step at any moment in time.
I believe God moves on His people at times when we are not seeking it but this verse indicates that we can also make the first move.
Smith Wigglesworth said “If the Spirit’s not moving, I’ll move him!”
My relationship with my wife wouldn’t be that great if she had to do all the initiation. If she had to start every conversation, make for the first move towards all the affection, and be the one to come up with all the ideas to keep our marriage healthy. In order for it to be a healthy marriage we both have to initiate love for one another. Proof of desire is pursuit.
Same thing with friendship. If you have to be the first one to make the call or contact every time it might not be a friendship.
That might be appropriate if your reaching someone God has placed on your heart but in general that’s not healthy.
Mark 5:28–29 NKJV
28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” 29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.
Mark 5:28
Mark 5:25 NKJV
25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years,
The woman with the issue of Blood initiated her connection with God.
Ps 42
Psalm 42:2–4 NKJV
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
What would ignite and cause us to respond to Gods calling to draw near? HUNGER AND THIRST
David cried out
Psalm 42:2–4 NKJV
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. Psalm 63:1 NKJV
1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
Psalm 6
