I) Introduction

ILLUST : Old dog in a blacksmith shop.
Old cows in a field with a train going by.

II) You are Responsible for YOU!

Many will disagree
we live in an age of “its all about me”
Illust: Separate honeymoons
The Writer tells us to Not allow our heart to harden
What about Israel
They :
Disbelieved
They would get into a situation like being thirsty and immediately decide God was not there.
They mumbled and complained
They wanted to return to Egypt
They Tested God
They wanted God to prove Himself before they would follow.
In the end they went astray
The did not know God’s way of faith and trust.
They chose not to follow God
they suffered the loss of:
The promised land
God’s rest.

III) You are responsible to watch (12)

There is danger of departing from the Loving God
Be alert
stay alert
Watch for an evil heart.
Ilust. Man in the tower and silk beetle.
It is the heart that
believes or does not believe
that refuses to follow God
That denies His existence
does not trust
Israel did not believe
God would provide
live up to His promises
give them the promised land
People today do not believe:
God exist
does what He says
Give them the promised land of heaven.

IV) You are responsible to encourage each other

Believers are to encourage and exhort one another
Exhort means to comfort
strengthen a brother so he can face what trials come.
There are several reasons why
Time is short
what do you own?
what do you believe?

5 You carry them away like a flood; They are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up:
6 In the morning it flourishes and grows up; In the evening it is cut down and withers.

12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
b. A man can be hardened by sins deceitfulness.
a. Its like a poisonous flower, it may be beautiful, but it will kill.
c. Salvation is Conditional
d. Everyday is important
e. To help us avoid provoking God
f. Judgement is a guarentee
g. God knows and judges unbelief
H. we need God’s rest
