John 14 “Still Here” Small Group Study Questions *Start your small group time off with prayer and then read the passage of Scripture in its entirety before getting into the questions. 1. What is Jesus trying to reassure his disciples of in this passage? Why does Jesus want his disciples to trust him, no matter what? 2. Why do you think the disciples were so clueless about Jesus’ mission? Why do you think they had such trouble understanding that Jesus is in the Father, and the Father is in him? Do you think you would have understood what Jesus is saying to his disciples here? 3. Why is it that the more we come to know Jesus the Son the more we will come to know God the Father as well? 4. What is the promise Jesus makes to his disciples here before he leaves them to go to the cross? Why does Jesus give us the Holy Spirit as his followers? What role does the Holy Spirit play in our lives? 5. What is the sign in our lives that we truly love Christ? To the opposite point, what is the sign that we don’t truly love Christ? 6. What is the great hope we have in Jesus? How can we learn to experience his peace and joy even in the midst of great trial and difficult circumstances? 7. Jesus goes to the cross because it is what the Father requires of him. How can you and I as followers of Jesus seek to emulate his obedience to the Father in our own lives? Closing Prayer: Thank and praise Jesus for his wonderful promises and the great hope we have in him! Ask the Lord to give you a deeper understanding of what it means to be obedient to him, and ask him at the same time to give you the power to do what he asks of you. Thank him for the Holy Spirit’s work in your life as a follower of Jesus Christ.
