The Holy Spirit
Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
1 Cor 12:1
In Peter had a vision from God about things that are clean and unclean
He then led a group of Gentiles to faith and said
Acts 11:
And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?”
he remembered a time when Jesus had ascended into heaven and there was a large group of Christians who were hanging out in the upper room when the Holy Spirit came upon them like a mighty rushing wind
These men recieved the HS in the same way when they believed in the Lord Jesus Christ
They were baptized with the Holy Spirit
water baptism is immersion and the baptism of the Spirit is by immersion as well
We are given a gift by God the Father when we accept Jesus as our Savior…
THE HOLY SPIRIT
before He was all around us
NOW He is living within us
ALL CHRISTIANS HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING IN AND THRU THEM
We are changed by the Holy Spirit
that’s why the Bible talks about being made new
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
why ? because he/she has been given the HS with all of He ability to change us
The world makes us cowards
fear is a liar
when we believe the lies of the enemy we will be cowardly
show our faith
allow God to do new things in and thru us
afraid to trust and follow God whole heartedly
discouraged by life
The Holy Spirit makes cowards — courageous
Pastor David Blunt: Courage doesn’t have to be dressed up in glitz, glamour, or fierce colors. It doesn’t have to be loud, nor does it need to demand the attention of others. Courage can be found in ordinary people facing their fears every day… When fear and doubt creep into our lives, it can paralyze us, make us lose confidence in ourselves, and make us question everything we know to be true. When you find yourself getting caught up in a sea of anxiety and dread, turn to the Lord and pray for a spirit of courage. The Holy Spirit will come alongside you when you are worried or afraid and will remind you to remain steadfast in the Lord, for our God is never far from us.

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
with the power of the HS we no longer have to be controlled by our fears
we can learn to have self -control … to be courageous
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

But the world leaves us feeling crippled
feeling like your circumstances or situation is too big for you to do anything about
feel exhaution
not from working too hard or the baby being up at 3am
but exhausted from looking to your life
depressed
frustrated
discouraged
The HS makes crippled capable
when you don’t feel like you can
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
How do we go to battle against the enemy?
Ephesians 6
and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
If you want the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, if you are tired of being a weak replica of ordinary non-Christians, then change your routine and immerse yourself in the Word of God. Read it, think about it, memorize it, use it.
In Paul is praying for the Ephesians and what he prays is that they might be strengthened with might through the Spirit and that they might be filled with all the fullness of God. He must believe, then, that Christians might receive this power and this fullness if he prays that they will.
The power of the Holy Spirit will not only make cowards courageous
He will also make crippled capable
He works in us to help us
He also works in us to help us to be obedient
The world makes us calloused
For this people’s heart has grown callous;
their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes;
otherwise they might see with their eyes
and hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn back—
and I would cure them.
we become numb to the world
see so much hate
pain
lies
hypocrisy
World will have us stop caring
Holy Spirit makes the calloused compassionate
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
He will cause us to love one another in a sacrificial way
not looking out for our own good but for the good of others
Jesus said
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Too many “christians” aren’t participating in spreading the Gospel because they don’t have the compassion for those who are lost
The Holy Spirit will make the calloused compassionate
The world will cause us to be content and complacent
one of the enemies greatest tools is to have you and I to think that we don’t need to grow closer to Christ
we have become content with where we are
The Holy Spirit will make the content and complacent - convicted
When Jesus was about to ascend into heaven he said
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
John 16:7-
Holy Spirit will convict us
when is the last time that you had a life changing conviction in your life over sin, righteousness, or judgment?
He goes on to say
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
HS will convict us thru truth
John 16:13
Are you cowardly or courageous?
Do you feel cripled or capable?
Are you calloused or compassionate?
Content and complacent or convicted?
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you
invite the HS to be present and active in your life
then be obedient to Him
