Countdown To Calvary – 3 Monday – Four Days Till The Cross Spring Cleaning at the Temple My favorite kind of tree is ___________. My least favorite tree is____________. Sundown on Sunday Mark 11:11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. What famous event had occurred prior to what we just read?________________ The significance of Mark 11:11 is_______________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ Monday Isaiah 56:6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord, 7 these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” Jeremiah 7:11 Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the Lord. The important of Old Testament prophesy in the last week of Jesus’ life… _________________________________________________________________ Mark 11:12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. Jesus’ behavior seems completely unreasonable. Did he get up on the wrong side of the bed or is there something else going on here?_______________________ _________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ 15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? [Isaiah 56:7] But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’ [Jeremiah 7:11] There were four different groups of people there. How would you describe there reactions to what Jesus did? The Merchants____________________ The Crowds_______________________ The Twelve_______________________ The Chief Priests___________________ There was probably another group of people there.________________________ 18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. Don’t miss two important points._______________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ Luke 20:1 As Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him. 2 “Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said. “Who gave you this authority?” 3 He replied, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me: 4 John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin?” 5 They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’ 6 But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.” 7 So they answered, “We don’t know where it was from.” Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.” Mark 11:19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city. Summing it all up, what did Jesus accomplish on Monday with: the crowds?_______________________ the chief priests?__________________ the twelve?_______________________ the Romans?______________________ And who, would you say, is completely in charge?_________________________
