There are just as many readings of the Law in Nehemiah as there are in the rest of the OT combined.

Scripture is for all ages, the whole community.

This was commanded many of times in the OT, parents were to teach their children what the faith looked like and the reasons behind the rituals. We must be serious about the next generation.

The people were eager to hear God’s Word.

This is not a group who were forced to be present. It was their desire. Part of this may be because it was the Jewish New Year.

The Levites and Ezra made Scripture understandable.

This is also our task

Scripture should produce joy!

Yes sometimes we must be aware of our sin but even then we are reminded God keeps his covenant of Love with us.

Joy is powerful

The Israelites were reminded the power of God’s joy for them.

They obeyed God’s Word.

Hearing Scripture is not enough.

We must live Scripture.

What role will Scripture play in your life?

Our answer to this question is our life. The best object lesson a person can be taught about Christ is a life lived in obedience to Christ.
Psalm 127:1 NIV
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
