The Path to Greatness

For those who are content – this message is not for you.  You are welcome to listen in…

The unraveling of mysteries.  The pursuit of something great.

Hope that produces change.  Coaching, expected to know something about how to become great.  People do not hire coaches to become mediocre.  What I have learned about the path to greatness…

I wanted the medals, I wanted the spotlight, I wanted the other wrestlers to know my name.  I wanted my dad and mom to hold their heads up high in the crowd and say, “That is my son!”  I wanted to be a great wrestler!  I believed it was possible!

Have you ever felt that way about something?  Your garden, your hobby, making clothes.  That is something I think I can do, that is something I want.

Jesus and the blind man.

I.                    What do you want? (head)

Jesus and Peter in the boat.

The king said to me, "What is it you want?" Then I prayed to the God of heaven,

5  and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favour in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it."

Matthew 20:32

Mark 10:36

Mark 10:51

Luke 18:41

Joh 5:6  When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?"

If you chase two rabbits, both will escape. - Chinese Proverb

II.                 How bad do you want it? (heart)

I've become more convinced than ever that God finds ways to communicate with those who truly seek him, especially when we lower the volume of the surrounding static. I remember reading the account of a spiritual seeker who interrupted a busy life to spend a few days in a monastery.

"I hope your stay is a blessed one," said the monk who showed the visitor to his cell. "If you need anything, let us know, and we'll teach you how to live without it."

How badly I wanted to win in wrestling:

*Weight loss

*No corner cutting

*Off season

*Grades

*Motorcycle wreck

Coaching…help people to want it and want it badly.

Prayer and what we want.  Phil. 3:10

What Paul wanted and how badly he wanted it.

Sounds like multiple things…but it is not.  It is one thing, to press toward the goal.  But in order to do that one thing Paul says he drops many other things.

Allow your focus to narrow.

One thing: (be joyful 107)

I want to know Christ and make Christ known!

Conclusion:  Only live to what we have attained.
