Sermon Tone Analysis

Paul Gentuso was a budding evolutionist until he studied the human hand in medical school.

“In anatomy class,” he said, “we dissected a human hand.

In investigating the hand, I first removed the skin, then isolated the individual tendons and muscles as I worked my way to the bones.

The tendons of the hand are aligned in tendon sheaths, like self-lubricating pulleys, allowing the hand to work in a tireless, noiseless, almost effortless fashion.

It was perfectly designed to carry out all the work it was called to do, everything from lifting a small object to lugging a tree trunk.”

The experience deeply affected Paul.

Until then he had entertained serious doubts about God’s existence.

“In seeing how each tendon was perfectly aligned along the axis of each finger and how each finger moved in a coordinated fashion when tugged by individual tendons,” he said, “it became obvious to me that there was a creator who had intelligently designed and created the human hand.

This was the first time in my adult life that I could say with assurance that a creator existed.

It was really a spiritual experience for me.

I went from doubt to certainty based on seeing God’s creation.”

Paul later became a Christian and now serves as a missionary physician in Cote d’Ivoire.

He is not the only one to abandon his faith in evolution in the light of the evident design of creation.

In fact, many scientist have come to realize a divine creator must have made this complexity.

Psalm 139:14-16 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully/ and/ wonderfully made: marvellous/ are/ thy works; and/ that/ my soul knoweth right well.

15 My substancec was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret,/ and/ curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all/ my members/ were writtend,/ which/ in continuance were fashioned, when/ as yet there was/ none of them.

Have you ever stood in front of a mirror and took a good look at yourself and said Wow, Lord look at what you have made.

Do that sometime, consider how great is the power of the Lord.

I'm not suggesting we look in the mirror and think wow, I am really beautiful, far more beautiful than most.

Don't compare, just look at God's creation, maybe with a few too many pounds, and wrinkles, and maybe even a bald spot.

But look at waht God has made, and in a little moment of praise say Wow, lord look at what you have done.
