Has God been faithful? Yes or No

How has God been faithful?

If you cannot answer this question then it will be hard to share your faith. If a church is not convinced of God’s faithfulness it will sit back and wait until something happens. As we move into a period of exile, this may mean the church dies.

You look backwards to go forwards.

We must allow our rich history of God working through our church to push us, call us, woo us, and force us to go forwards. The Israelites were complacent on what was taking place. They had the had the temple and felt just “fine”.

The physical project is complete.

The wall to some extent is the easy project. This would not produce lasting change but it was a start.

Genealogies records God’s faithfulness to His People.

The deeper project begins: spiritual transformation.

However, as Nehemiah and the next chapter will show, the nation was in need of a greater transformation. The same is true for us.

It doesn’t matter how nice something is if there is no life inside.

Jesus called some people white washed tombs for this reason.

The Gospel reminds us every week of God’s promises.

Exodus 20:4–6 NIV
“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
