This psalm tells us that God has revealed himself to man in two different ways: One, thru His creation, a silent message that speaks to all men (also known as General Revelation); and Two, thru the written word, the Bible (known as Specific Revelation).
God has revealed himself to man in two different ways: One, thru His creation, a silent message that speaks to all men; and Two, thru the written word, the Bible.
David is teaching us that...
The Creation reveals its Creator.
As a glorious God.
The heavens are telling of the glory of God
“The heavens are telling the glory of God;” 1
Anyone who has ever contemplated the beauty of a starry night cannot deny that it is something glorious.
How can something so glorious may be the product of chance?
Only a glorious God can create such a glorious display!

Isaiah, the prophet who said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined!…
For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts”, also expressed the glory of God manifested in the stars:
As the wise designer.
“And night to night reveals knowledge (wisdom).”
2b
Only someone with an infinite intelligence could create a Universe with its planetary systems so finely tuned.
That does not happen as a result of a “Big Bang”.
It happens because the glorious God created it.
A Universe with its planetary systems so finely tuned does not happen as a result of a “Big Bang”.
It happens because the glorious God created it:
As the prophet Isaiah, we could also question those who deny the existence of the Great Designer and Maker:
Isa 40:12-14
As a God who reveals Himself to all.
“Their line has gone through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world.” 4
He has revealed Himself to all through Creation so no one may claim ignorance.
Rom 1:19-20
Creation shows God’s kindness too:
“He has placed a tent for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber.”

Mat 5:45
The written Word reveals the character of the Creator.
God is perfect.
“The law of the Lord is perfect,” 7a
Although we often use the word “perfect”, true perfection applies only to God.
Creatures were created perfect because the Creator is perfect.
If creatures are imperfect now is because they decided to disobey the perfect instructions given by God.
We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture: they do not contain error.
If it had an error, it could not be called the Word of God.
Any book written by imperfect men is imperfect, but the perfection of the Scriptures point to a perfect author.
The law of the Lord is perfect become it comes from a perfect author.
God is faithful.
“The testimony of the Lord is sure,” 7b
The Heb. root “aman”is translated 44 times as “believe”, 20 times as “faithful”, 11 times as “sure”, 7 times as “established”, an 5 times as “trust”.
Now you can have an idea why we say “Amen”!
The testimonies or declarations of God are unfailing, believable, and sure because they are given by a faithful God.
God is righteous.
“The precepts of the Lord are right,” 8a
This refers to the ways God deals with man.
Everything He does with man is right.
The Theological Dictionary gives us light when describes the meaning of the root (paqad) from which the word “precept” comes:
The basic meaning is to exercise oversight over a subordinate, either in the form of inspecting or of taking action to cause a considerable change in the circumstances of the subordinate, either for the better or for the worse
God is holy.
“The commandment of the Lord is pure,” 8b
The word “bar” means pure and clean and these are related to holiness.
Holiness is the maximum state of purity; it is absence of sin.
Everything God has commanded is holy and, therefore; with the best intention toward man because He is holy.
Obeying God’s commandment is always for our benefit.
God is truthful.
“The judgments of the Lord are true;” 9b
The same psalmist wrote: (no slide)
Psa 119:160
And confirmed by our Lord Jesus: (no slide)
God is truth, all truth comes from God; all lies come from the devil.
The written Word transforms man.
No one can be transformed but by the Word of God.
His Word is the molding and sharpening tool God uses to transform us.
It does it by:
Restoring his soul.
“restoring the soul;” 7b
Sin contaminates and depraves man.
The Word revives us: (no slides)
The Word keeps us clean:
Psa 119:9
Giving him wisdom.
“making wise the simple.”
7d
Foolishness is another result of sin.
The devil reached his goal when he convinced man to disobey God: sin blinded the mind of man:
But the Word refreshes the mind, the understanding:
Giving him joy.
“rejoicing the heart;” 8b
True joy comes only from God and thru His Word:
psa 119:111
John 15:11
Have you lost your joy? Go back to the Word!
Opening his eyes.
“enlightening the eyes.”
8d
But as I said before, the devil blinds man so he may not see God blessings nor understand God’s precepts.
1 john 1
But as I said before, the devil blinds man so he may not see God blessings nor understand God’s precepts.
But as I said before, the devil blinds man so he may not see God blessings nor understand God’s precepts.
But the Word is light to the blind:
Psa 36:9
Only thru the Scriptures we may come to the knowledge of Christ.
The devil’s desire is to keep you away from the Word.
He does it by keeping you busy.
He does not want you to see the light of Christ.
