Isaiah’s Vision of the Lord
6 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
The Lord is Holy and we see this throughout scripture. But what does it mean to be Holy?
Wayne Grudem tells us in Systematic Theology, “God’s holiness means that he is separated from sin and devoted to seeking his own honor. This definition contains both a relational quality (separation from) and a moral quality (the separation is from sin or evil, and the devotion is to the good of God’s own honor or glory).
-Isaiah experienced what it was like to step into Gods presence and to see first hand what it was like to be in the presence of Holiness, and he was undone by it.-
(ESV)
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
What was it that God told Moses, when Moses was at the burning bush (Exodus 3:3-5)? And why did God tell Moses this?
(ESV)
3 And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” 4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
-Like Isaiah, Moses is afraid to look at God because of the sin that is dwelling with in him.-
God is set apart from the rest of creation, because He is Holy and not made holy. The ground that Moses was on was made Holy by God, because it was were God was.
The temple of God that Isaiah went into was not Holy because it was Holy. It was Holy because God was within it.
Looking at the temple of God we see that the closer that we come into the presence of God the more Holy the place is.
-Moses and Isaiah faced God and were undone. Have you faced God and been undone by your sin that is separating you from Him? This has to happen in order to build our foundation upon Him. We have to recognize our sin and place it upon Jesus, and like the coal that cleansed Isaiah when it touched his mouth, Jesus will cleanse us, and we become His temple.-
Because God is Holy, He will make us Holy when we come into His Holy presence.

16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
Thoughts and discussion
Memorization Verse
(ESV)
17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
