Countdown To Calvary – 1 Saturday – Six Days Till The Cross Tensions Build – Burial Perfume Dinner party or BBQ? Morning walk or evening walk? Theater movie or couch movie? Let’s watch as tensions build as Jesus moves his disciples toward Jerusalem. Mark 8:31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Explain Peer’s reaction.______________________________________________ Jesus’ response to Peter seems a bit harsh. Was it? Explain.________________ _________________________________________________________________ If you had been one of the disciples, how would this have made you feel?_______ _________________________________________________________________ Luke 9:46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. Why would an argument like this occur?_________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ John 11:14 So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, 15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” 16 Then Thomas (also known as Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” This shows us that__________________________________________________ Saturday Night – Before Palm Sunday Matthew 26:6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” 14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” Simon the Leper did what he did because________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ The woman did what she did because___________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ The disciples reacted the way they did because___________________________ Judas did what he did because_________________________________________ What was Jesus trying to do for the various people who attended this dinner party?____________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ What do the next six days look like for you? What are you looking forward to? What are you concerned about? How does this lesson help? Psalm 61 1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. 2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. 4 I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. 5 For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. 6 Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for many generations. 7 May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him. 8 Then I will ever sing in praise of your name and fulfill my vows day after day.
