We Believe the Resurrection
We Believe the Resurrection
The resurrection is as central to the theme of salvation as is the shed blood of Christ
It was proof positive that God had accepted the sacrifice Christ made for the forgiveness of man’s sin
Something to note here is that Gospel wasn’t something invented during the Apostle’s time…it was foretold throughout the OT
Look at
In the book of Job he asks the question’
But then procliams
In the book of Hebrews we see the picture of the Gospel
Most well known prophecy by most Christians
Clearly it was part of the plan that Christ suffer for the sins of man
It was the focus of His discussions with the disciples
Paul the Apostle put it this way:
The keys here are confess with your mouth (invitation), and believe in your heart, what?
That God raised Christ from the dead
So central to salvation ids the resurrection the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Peter wrote:
We have been born again to a new life because of the resurrection
Now there is a general misunderstanding about baptism and salvation
Baptism with regeneration is pointless!!!
It would appear that the Holy Spirit is saying that Baptism saves but that is not the case at all
In the preceeding verses we read
Christ paid the price by the death of the flesh but was made alive Spiritually (that which was lost at Eden)
It also tells us that people were saved through in the Ark through the water
Again we might conclude that water baptism saves but it is only a type foreshadowing salvation!
The water represented God’s judgement - the Ark the following of His command
Noah could have built the ark but then not gotten into it; he could have chosen not to build it and then been caught up in God’s judgement
But faith combined with action led to his deliverance from God’s judgement
So now the Holy Spirit goes on to say
There is a antitype - literally the Greek word for embossing stamp - a master picture that leaves an impression - the impression is not the original but rather a copy - a representation of the original - the Amplified Bible says:
1 Peter 3:21
21 And baptism, which is a figure [of their deliverance], does now also save you [from inward questionings and fears], not by the removing of outward body filth [bathing], but by [providing you with] the answer of a good and clear conscience (inward cleanness and peace) before God [because you are demonstrating what you believe to be yours] through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The waters we are sailing are God’s judgement, the ark we entered is His sacrifice which protects us from the judgement
And one day will will dock at the gates of heaven safe and secure in the Masters hands!
Baptism is a demonstrated act of obedience showing the our conscious has been renewed through the resurrection
Without the resurrection the abundant life that Christ promised would not be possible!
