Christ wants a Living Church, faithful to His Word and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Christ is He who has the Seven Spirits (the Holy Spirit) and directs the seven stars (the pastors). He knows the true condition of every heart.
“Charge up that hill boys!” - Trip to Florida

Wake Up

Sardis had a name that they were alive, but they were dead. They professed to know Christ, but his verdict was that they did not!
Matthew 7:21–23 ESV
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
E
Titus 1:16 ESV
They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
These are people who say that they know God, but they have not been converted, they have never repented and their lives do not evidence any fruit.
First indicator of a dead church: false activity, but no changed life.
First indicator of a dead church: false activity, but no changed life.
A church that is more concerned with “being relevant” to the world that it is with being obedient to Christ is a dead or dying church.
A church that is more concerned with “being relevant” to the world that it is with being obedient to Christ is a dead or dying church.
Second indicator of a dead church: Apathy - complacent and content with going through the motions, but no life.
A church that cares more about its own comfort that it does about its witness for Christ is a dead or dying church.
Christ gives three commands of direction:
Revive - Become Staying Awake and strengthen.
Ephesians 5:14 ESV
for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Eph.
Remember - how you received the word and heard it.
1 Thessalonians 1:6 ESV
And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,
1 Thess 2:
1 Thessalonians 2:13 ESV
And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.
Repent - obey the word and repent.

Walk Worthy

There were some that had “defiled (stained) their garments”. Christ considered them worthy of walking with him. They were not compromised with the world.
Christ offers a reward to those who have received Him by faith, have been converted by the Spirit, and are walking with Him in obedience.
A church that is more concerned with “being relevant” to the world that it is with being obedient to Christ is a dead or dying church.
Purity - He will clothe them in white robes.
Revelation 7:14 ESV
I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Preservation:
He will “ou may” not never blot their name out of the Book of Life. They have the promise of eternal life.
He will confess their name before the Father.
Matthew 10:32 ESV
So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,
Are you Awake? Are you walking worthy of the blood of the Lord Jesus? Or, are you asleep and in danger of losing your life for all eternity?
