Talk about feeling like whats left over.
1 Peter 2:9–10 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Yea yea I know God wants us to be royalty and I believe that…but maybe just not me
Yea yea I know god wants us to be royalty and I believe that…but maybe just not me
Maybe I am the left over pieces in the Lego box. I wasn't actually meant for a purpose like the other pieces. I’m just an afterthought.
Elephant story
circus elephant as baby tied with small rope to nail. As a baby this is enough to keep him from running off but as a full grown elephant could easily break the tie that holds him back. But they don't because they have grown believing they cant.
How many of us are living like this elephant?
We are holding on to a belief of ourselves that is less than our ability. Maybe even it was true at one point but it isn't anymore yet we are living out our life according to it.
This was the aim of Royalty. That God has called us more than what we call ourselves. We are Kings and Priests. We are royalty. We are hybrids.
But maybe even though that was the aim again I wonder if you are like me and struggle with really believing this beyond others and believing it for yourself. Maybe god did call everyone Royalty but maybe just not me.
Maybe I’m lacking
Maybe I’m not enough
Maybe when God looks at me he just sees what is left over.
Can you relate?
But like the elephant we have the calling. We have the ability-we just don’t know it.
:
John 6:1–4 CJB
1 Some time later, Yeshua went over to the far side of Lake Kinneret (that is, Lake Tiberias), 2 and a large crowd followed him, because they had seen the miracles he had performed on the sick. 3 Yeshua went up into the hills and sat down there with his talmidim. 4 Now the Judean festival of Pesach was coming up;
John 6:1–3 NKJV
1 After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples.
John 6:1–14 NKJV
1 After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. 4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. 5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” 6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. 7 Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” 8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” 10 Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
John 6:1-3

John 6:4–6 NKJV
4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. 5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” 6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
John 6:4-6
John 6:7–9 NKJV
7 Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” 8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?”
John 6:7-
John 6:10–11 NKJV

John 6:10-
John 6:12 NKJV
12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.”
John 6:12-

Remember we know the ending but they didnt
I know we feel we are what is
left over
but that is okay because tonight we are going to learn that God is a God of leftovers! Within this story God is declaring that we are not just what was left over and insignificant or not enough. He is a God of more than enough. We are his people- a people of more than enough.

From Left Over to Leftovers

pray: as we go back in the text give us fresh insight and understanding
reread and go in depth now
John 6:1–3 NKJV
1 After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples.
John 6:1
vs 2. but blessed our those who walk by faith and not by sight ()
John 6:4 NKJV
4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near.
John 6:4–6 NKJV

John 6:4
John 6:4-
Passover purpose
Remember the passover was celebration of remembrance of the children of Israel who believed God and entrusted their life to him by placing the blood of a slain lamb on their doorposts as the angel of God passed over.
During the Passover celebration the people would make sacrifices.
One of the sacrifices was the first fruit or what was ready to be harvested first.
this was the barley
Its interesting to note that this passover celebration was a time of huge feast and vs 4 notes that the passover feast was near. There was supposed to be a feast soon yet we are reading a story of hunger.
Have you ever felt what was supposed to be was not what you were experiencing?
God has called us royalty but yet we fill less than qualified. We fill left over-insufficient-insignificant.
John 6:5 NKJV
5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”
John 6:5
vs 5 in the other gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) say that after a full day of listening to Jesus the people were hungry and so we see this conversation take place.
vs 5 in the other gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) say that after a full day of listening to Jesus the people were hungry and so we see this conversation take place.
John 6:6 NKJV
6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
John 6:6
When we are moving from a place of believing we are just whats left over to a place where we are leftovers we need to #1 realize there are answers to the test

1| There Are Answers To The Test

God doesn’t look at you and say
“Man I really need people to hear about me at Blaine's school but i forgot to give him the ability to talk!”
“O man I wish I would have given them more money. Then they could actually do something important.”
He says I created you. I know you. I made you intentionally. You have all you need. You got this because I got this!
John 6:7–8 NKJV
7 Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” 8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,
When we are moving from a place of believing we are just whats left over to a place where we are leftovers we need to #2 realize who judges significance

2| Who Judges Significance

Philip and Andrew chime in there is nothing here of use. Just some kid with this insignificant meal- if you can even call it that.
this kid had a barley loaf.
Barely in this time went from the first fruit passover sacrifice to being associated with the poor
Barley was even associated with horse feed
aka barley=not signifcant
The kid had only 5 loaves and 2 fish. the barley loaves weren't like big french rolls but like
cheezeits
not enough
ironically though what they deemed as nothing was still more than what anyone else had.
In fact this boys lunch would not have even been notice unless there was a need.
don't let the devil convince you you don't have enough. no matter where you are at you still have more than him!
John 6:10 NKJV
10 Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
John 6:10
I love Jesus’s response.
He doesn't say you are right that's so little but I’ll do something with it. No he doesn't even acknowledge their thought
He never saw something to overcome. It was deemed insignificant to him. They saw limitation. He saw abundance. He saw leftovers.
Mark 6:39–40 NKJV
39 Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties.
When we are moving from a place of believing we are just what’s left over to a place where we are leftovers we have to realize #3 God counts what is countable

3| Count What’s Countable

Jesus wanted to make clear something significant was going to happen.
He made them count the people to see what was going to be done this “insignificant meal”
John 6:11–13 NKJV
11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:11-13
When we are moving from a place of believing we are just what’s left over to a place where we are leftovers we have to realize #4 that nothing is lost.

4| Nothing Is Lost

nothing is insignificant.
nothing is just what is left over.
if the left overs weren't important jesus would not have made a point to gather them up and then to count them.
If it was just about feeding people He could have made it where the town had enough food.
remember vs 6 said he knew what he would do.
But he wanted to take what was considered unimportant and insignificant, unexpected, not enough to create a situation of overflow, abundance, of more than enough, of leftovers.
To say you are not what is just useless left over parts. there is importance in you.you are designed to be abundant. you are a king.you are royalty.
it would have been a miracle just to feed 5000.
It was an even better miracle to feed 5000 people starting off with so little.
it was an even better miracle to feed 5000 people starting with so little and ending with leftovers.(lasting evidence of a miracle)
there were 12 baskets left over- one for each of the disciples there
the #12 in biblical studying represents God’s people. (12 disciples, 12 tribes of Israel)
in essence God was saying I have called ALL people a people of blessing and abundance.
In Matthew and Mark they talk about another feeding in addition to the 5000. on a separate day there was a feeding of 4000
How many of us need a repeat of info to get stuff right?!
this feeding of 4000 started again with insignifcant limited loaves of bread (7) and ended with an overflow of 7 baskets.
the #7 i biblical studying represents completion.
The feeding of 5000 happened in a Jewish area by the sea of Galilee. the feeding 4000 happened in a gentile area (non church people) in decaplois.
in essence God is saying in me you are complete.
there is nothing lacking for you
this doesn't apply to only some people. this is for everyone. I am a God of ALL people. With me ALL people will be blessed. you are enough.in fact you are more than enough! you are leftovers!!
We are not what is just left over
we are not lacking
we are not forgotten
we are not insignificant
we are LEFTOVERS
We are more than enough
we are abundance
we are kings and priests
God is a God of leftovers!

God Is a God Of Leftovers!

Psalm 65:11 NKJV
11 You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.
2 Corinthians 9:7–8 NKJV
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 The Message
8 God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done.
2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV
8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
John 10:10 NKJV
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
God is a God of leftovers!!
