In the Zone Part 2: Who me?
Have you ever been in a position when you were called on to answer a question or do something and you looked around thinking “who me?”
I sure have. See if any students will give an example.
I was at a friends house many years ago. In fact it was so long ago that I just had passed my driving test. I was never allowed to drive and had very little practice. My friends father asked me to move his car from the street into his driveway. I literally looked at him and asked him, “Who me?” I couldn’t believe he would trust me to move his car. If may have been only 10 or 20 feet but it seemed to be 10 or 20 miles. He said to me that it was only a car and he completely had faith in me that I could do it.
I know it happens often in school and in sports but how about the rest of your life.
Has God ever called you to do something and your answer was, “Who me?”
A pastor? A teacher? Who, me?
Now imagine being in Joshua’s position.
Moses, his leader, had just passed away.
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:
2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.
Moses is a dead and gone dude.
But notice what God says in verse 6.
6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
Be strong! Be courageous! Be brave!
That all sounds great but...
God gets more serious with Joshua in verse 7
7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
In case Joshua didn’t hear God the first time. God repeats it with a little more force!
You can do this! You got this! As long as I am on your side, you will be victorious!
As we continue in verse 9 now, God puts His foot down and makes sure that Joshua fully understands.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Listen, didn’t I tell you?!
Be strong, be brave! Don’t be afraid! Don’t even worry!
I am going to be with you everywhere you go and in you in everything you do!
So what’s your excuse? Why haven’t you done something great for God? DO IT!
